Trail Head Offroad (THOR) Cowl Induction Cold Air Intake

I would assume you could use the kit on all model xj's since the bodies around the firewall are virtually the same

but i think piecing it together would be a sinch if you wanted to

My kit came in yesterday. The install was pretty straight forward and easy.
I started by bolting on the heat shield:

I drilled some holes with my hole saws:

In addition to the 4" hole I had to cut out alot more with my grinder:

Holly grounding stap Kimosabe . Where did you get that? Thats cool.

Here is the response I received from Spectre last night, "Our first shipment of inventory is scheduled to arrive later this month. I would expect that they would be for sale early in March". We'll see what the final product looks like and what the final pricing is then I guess.

Dads XJ... do you know the part number of the filter they included with the THOR kit? I was looking on the green filter website but didn't know what one they used. If I want to build my own cowl intake, I might want to use the same filter.

I installed my THOR kit today. Good kit, everything works fine. If I have any complaints it's with the supplied template. I couldn't make sense of it so I tossed it and just cut the hole out a little at a time until I had a good fit.

Oh, if you have the under hood light make sure you relocate or remove it before you shut the hood for the first time or you'll hear the sound of plastic crunching. I just moved mine over towards the middle of the hood, there's enough wire on it already. Since I took the mercury switch out and replaced it with a little rocker switch it doesn't matter which way I turned it.

I took some intake temp readings with my Torque app, as soon as I take some after readings I'll post them to see how much difference it makes.

I am curious to see how the air filter/cone is positioned behind the firewall (under the vents between the hood & windshield).
I am thinking of making my own and have seen different versions.
Will water get into the filter?

I wondered the same thing. The right side of the cowl vent is fake, there are no holes in it, so rain or snow can't fall directly on it. I guess some could come across from the other side, but I think it's more likely to go down the cowl drain on that side first.
The filter goes straight in to the cowl, parellel with the engine. I think about 10% of it sticks out past the cowl, but it's covered by the "heat sheild", the sheet metal cover.

I took a look at my very un-scientific data on the intake temp. The intake seems to be staying at a lot more constant temp. It was around 110-120 over the weekend with outside air temps in the high to mid 70's. Older data, before the cowl induction isn't a lot higher at speed, but in slow or stop situations there are spikes up to 150 degrees. This is where I was hoping for cooler temps and I'm happy to see them staying down under 125 now. Most of my off-roading is at slow speeds through the woods, so this has got to be a good thing.

Word of warning though, it is loud inside during cold start-ups. It's always noticable, and when I put my right foot down, well, let's just say I'll never see an increase in mileage, I like the throaty roar. :-)

Just installed my THOR and ditto Ogrebonz here. It's fairly loud at startup and always noticeable to varying degrees. I might try some Dynamat in there or something to see if it helps. Anyone else have success quieting these things down?

I've noticed the same 'loud' ness on my intake (Spectre) and wondered if you guys have just learned to live with it or found a way to quiet it down some? Thanks.

Once my filter got dirty it got a lot quieter, or I'm just more used to it now, but seriously though, it should get quieter with some dirt on it.

Does anyone know the part number for the Green filter included in the THOR CAI? If not, how about the measurements?
