Traction bar buildup ideas

Well looks like it is time to build a traction bar out back to get rid of some axlewrap. Who has some ideas and pictures of what they have done or recommend?

This is kindof what I am thinking of, I just need to figure out the mounting points at the frame and axle.

Should I just build a bracket around the 9inch or go with a truss under and over? What kind of frame side mount should I go with? This is a new department for me so I am searching and asking questions as I go with this. I don't want to half ass this either.

The front needs to 'twist' and move 'forward/backwards'.

I saw a pic where the front was a solid round into the tube of the truss. It allowed all the movement needed. This way there is no space taking shackle setup.

I would love to see one that bolted on to the diff cover or was even incorporated into the diff cover. Like a steel fab'ed diff cover with 2'ears' welded off to one side, above and below the axle tube, that the truss would bolt to.

I didn't realize that it had a name- 'slip and twist TB'.
He used a round into a square.
A round into a round with the inside round having a shallow spiral grove and a zerk fitting on the outside to lube.

I really like this design, the 'slip and twist' is the upper tube which is protected by the lower tube. They don't have to be touching like he did.

I am really liking this idea for a traction bar. Now to figure out how to mount it to the jeep. The axle will be the easy part to mount it to, but it is going to take some time to figure out a good way to mount it to the frame. I have a T.N.T belly pan and don't want to mount it to that.

at one point brian had prototyped a mount for inside the trans tunnel that sandwiched th sheetmetal. Might be an option.

That is what I was thinking, but trying to find a way to mount it so it doesn't rip off is going to be the challenge. This project should start next week and probably take forever. :)

Most of the forces are actualy pushing up on the tranny tunnel, by the time you add a 3' torsion bar the forces really aren't too bad.

I think he means axle wrap can be extreme at the axle tube, but adding a 3 foot traction bar puts very little leverage on the mounting point. I would still try to find a more solid mounting point than just sheet metal.

This is actually a first for me making a modification that requires ME to actually make it. Most of the shit I have messed with already has been bolt on. I am not a great welder and my welder is shit, so this should be interesting. :D Honestly, I have a feeling I will either farm out this traction bar setup and have someone else do it, or go another direction, like going smaller.
