im going to modify a stock track bar for a 6.5" lift. how long should this thing be?

im sure this has been covered. i searched but couldnt find what i need. i remember a chart for LCA lengths. is there one for trackbar lengths?

maybe someone that has 6.5" of lift can run out and measure your trackbar if your sure you have it dialed in.

shoot, for all i know a chart comes with the instructions for adjustable trackbar installation.

thanks in advance.

When I raised my trackbar and had it shortened... I just measured how long it would have to be to get it where I wanted it.... parallel with the drag link.

so, the way to tell if you have the correct length is when the trackbar is perfectly parallel to the drag link?

I don't see why. For a lift like that why would you not upgrade? bigger tires are gonna put more stress on the track bar. I would just upgrade to a HD trackbar if it were me!:dunno:

not in the budget. got another project eating the funds.

buying a strong adjustable trackbar > breaking the stock bar, getting off the trail with a bunch of rathet straps holding your axle under your jeep, making it home then buying a strong adjustable trackbar

im asking how long it should be, not if you agree with it.

Man i understand its Christmas time, the economy sucks, and money is tight i know exactly how you feel! If you want to do it whatever thats your call but i'd rather do it right the first time to avoid damage to my rig and myself! Everyone on here is gonna tell you to buy a track bar anyways!

sorry, but i dont understand how you can have the skills to modify a trackbar but not have the know how to figure out the correct length. even though your putting on a 6.5" lift, doesnt mean it will be exactly 6.5". then there is the saying,"every jeep is different". some people state that with their 3" lift there was no need for a longer trackbar and some else with a 3" lift(me included) says they needed a longer trackbar. having adjustability, correct bends and joint(range of motion), double shear mount, and strength are really needed at that height.

is the stock track bar even bent correctly(for clearance and TRE range of motion) for a 6.5 inch lift? what part of the bar are you going to modify/extend? TRE end, axle end, or the disatnce between the bends?

do you have the 6.5" lift on with the stock tracbar? if so, measure how far off the axle is from being centered and increase the length of the track bar that distance.

TRE trackbars at 6.5" of lift is not the best option. are you running control arm drop brackets?

I agree.

We really aren't trying to be assholes man its just not ideal or safe for that matter. i would say unless its absolutely necessary put your other project on hold temporarily if the jeep is needed more than your other project.

your opinion will be different when you hold up everyone on the trail.

Or we just read about you or some innocent bystander in the "Obits"!

If you cant even afford an adjustable trac-bar what are you doing putting 6.5" of lift on your Jeep?

There is A LOT of modification necessary to other components of your Jeep when you go that tall.

Save your pennies. Do it once and do it right.

You're going to get someone injured.

The TRE at the top of the stock trackbar does not have the range of motion to work with more than about 3" of lift, and even at that you'll be overextending it when you droop.

Hey Wanna buy my JKS adjustable that I am not able to run anymore. I custom shortened a stock trackbar and used some DOM Tubing to make sure that i wasn't going to kill ne one else with my mechanical abilities or lack thereof.

If you don't like sound advice, don't ask. Just take your tape measure and start figuring things out. If you feel over your head at that point, reconsider the advice given by people who have been in your situation before.

+1 one more for adjustable, double shear mount, heavy duty track bar.

I'm the king-kong of cheapos and that's one place where you're not going to do yourself ANY favors.

Oh, and here's what should be the deciding factor: There are no replaceable linkages on the stock trackbar (TRE is part of the shaft). Even if you modded it perfectly, its a one use piece of crap. I went through 2 stock trackbars at a mere 3.5" before finally ponying up.

All that extra leverage against that puny little TRE to use a track bar that might not even be bent to clear the rest of the steering, is not replaceable with anything other than another custom made part, and in general isn't what you're after.

So there you have it, unsafe, ineffective, time-consuming and rubicon has an adjustable for $165...That's right around the cost of 2 stock trackbars, and I can almost promise you its cheaper than 1 trackbar and all the fab time it would take you to ghetto rig the stocker. I see 'em used for the $100 range fairly frequently.

Just curious, what are you doing about the rear driveshaft with 6.5" of lift?
