Toyota Camry probs

My gf just bought a 2001 Camry with just under 40000 miles. Its sputters when she takes her foot off the accelerator. When she comes to a stop, it almost dies and occasionally does (she says 25% of the time it dies). Over 2000 rpms its fine. She's had it back to the dealer 2x and the second time they said they'd take it to the Toyota dealer (but they didn't) and they couldn't reproduce it after a period of 4 days. Shes on her second tank of fuel line cleaner (Seafoam and Prestone).

Anyone got any ideas on whats wrong? Would we be out of line demanding a refund? It has a warranty on it from the dealer (not factory).

Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

How many days has she had it? If she JUST got it yes, I would demand a refund. If she's had it for 30 days they're probably not going to do much about it. Since she has a warranty make sure they fix it properly. Most of the dealers will half ass soemthing as cheaply as possible until you're out of the warranty period.
From what your describing I would first take a look at the ignition system. Sounds like weak spark at low RPMs. Secondly I'd look at the air management system. A stuck or sticking IAC would present those problems.
I would doubt that it's fuel related since you say it runs fine at higher RPMs, where it's more likley to be fuel starved.
They need to send it to a yota dealer, they got real nifty machines that will tell you whats wrong with it.
Good luck, if they get it running right it will run forever. My Wife has a 97 with 100K miles on it and it runs like a top. I've never done anything but brakes, oil and plugs to it.

She got it maybe 2 weeks ago, and its been at the dealer for a week total. I wasn't sure if the lemon law applied to used cars as well.

It kind of seemed they were half assing it from the way she described her experiences with them. I kinda wondered about them running out the warranty. I'm not around that much (school) so I can't look at it personally. Ive only seen the car once. Maybe I'll run home tonight to check it out. Thanks for your quick replys. Any other sugs would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, yeah. The first time they had the car back the mechanics said that they removed something that was lodged in the throttle(?). When she told me that I thought it sounded like a bs repair. (muffler bearings, turnsignal fluid, checked the in-line on the rotary girder)

Just an update, thanks 87manche

Well, I went with her when she brought it back for them to look at again last Tuesday. I asked the lady if there was a record of what was looked at and she said not really. I then told her that I was told it could be the IAC or the EGR or a weak spark. She told me that they looked at the EGR and IAC (she remembered after I mentioned it), but the EGR is very expensive. Sounded as if they didn't want to fix it bc it cost too much.
Anyways, they brought it to the Toyota dealer and the dealer found the problem in less than a day. Guess what, it was the EGR valve. So now her car is fixed and I hope we don't have to deal with those lazy people anymore.
