Found a 4runner

3.0 liter, 6 cylinder, all power, 5 speed manual transmission. Runs fine. 500 obo

Right now i have an XJ but since its my DD I dont like doing too much crazy stuff in it, because if its a serious break, then I have no wheels.

Anyone know anything about 4runners? I think id be worth picking up t ohave as a backup.

What year and how many miles???

The 3.0l are the worst engine toyota ever put in their trucks or 4runners. That being said it still should run a long time properly maintained.

89, miles werent listed

not planning on wheeling hardcore in it, just to get me to school and work while the jeep is in the garage

We had one when I was younger, pretty much identical to that. Pretty much the same as a pickup back then, engine was ok but coulda been better. But we took care of it, the drivetrain outlasted the body. Rust bucket. Went good though, on and off road. Just throw a set of the biggest agressive tires you can on it and pop the top off, its all good. Not a jeep, but could be a lot worse.

That vintage should be reliable IIRC - the later "bubble" 4runners had issues with the 3.0l V6.

I like that type of 4runner with the removable roof and easy SFA build but I don't fit. Not enough space between the seat bottom and the roof - need to tilt my head to one side almost. I'm only 6' tall and a touch long in the leg. Legroom is the typical Japanese bent knee position. I dunno how people can be comfortable in these things.

Make sure you drive it and sit in it a for a while to test for comfort.

My '90 3.0L had constant headgasket problems, which was common. It also had numerous other issues even as a lightweight wheeler, nothing more.
$500? It's probably a POS.

If its not a rust bucket Id get the runner for you DD and wheel the xj. The IFS on the runner probably rides a lot smoother on the street then the solid axle on your Jeep. If its in as good of shape all around as it looks in the pic Id go for it. If not Id look for a 22re or an 22ret runner if u can find one. Slower, but not much and they have a MUCH better reputation then the v6 that came in them.

For 500 bucks I'd be all over it. If the 3.0 is in good condition then you may actually be in luck. They have such a high failure rate that you might be able to sell the engine for what you'll have in the whole truck. I sold a 3.0/auto/t-case last year for 600 dollars and am building the rest into a nice street/trail rig.

I would jump on it. For the lack or suspension travel the Yotas are damn good on the trail. I had a 91 with 33s, 5.29s(4 cylinder) and a lockright in the rear. It would go anywhere my XJ would it was just not as smooth of a ride LOL. A friend of mine has a 96 with the Factory selecable locker, 2" lift, 33s and that bitch does AWSOME. Its usually got only 3 wheels on the ground from lack of flex but it doesn't stop it lol.

For $500 you can't go wrong if it runs. The 1st gen Toyota's are easy to work on, and engine rebuilt kits cheap. The IFS rides nice but not as good as the XJ IMHO. But that sucker will wheel OK. If anything every happened to the XJ swap the front axle a beat the crap outta the Toy!

heck ya buy it. Cant go wrong for $500 especially if its little to minor rust. Thats the jeep i always wish they built the mj into with a removable hard top and glass rear roll down window. Solid axle is part of the dream.

I would buy it and if the 3.0 ever dies then swap in a vortec 4.3 chevy.

I love those 1st gen 4 runners.
