Tools.....air or electirc

Tank air pressure is pre-set to 155psi my manufaturer (non-adjustable afaik), and yes, my output pressure was set to 90 psi (or should i set to 120psi?).

Do i need to drain tank after every use?
(btw, it took only 6 min to pressurized tank from empty, which i'm happy with)

Thx.

The max I do is 90psi out or whatever the tools specifies which is usually lower.

I blast the air out of my tank to get moisture out. I also do not like leaving a full tank of air so I empty it if it is going to sit over night without use. I added a ball type drain valve which is way better than what came with my tank and makes emptying it much easier, I actually started a thread in the tools section if you are interested in that.

I say splurge and go with this impact gun, it's what I have and it is just total awesome.

I know someone selling one of these locally for $180 which is a killer deal. He actually has 2 and I am tempted to get a 2nd gun ha.

Total waste of time and money.I never even turn my compressor OFF,I only close the air valve when Im done.I have an 80gal vertical so draining it is totally out of the question. As far as bleeding the moisture off,I probably only do it a few times a year but YMMV due to where you live and how hard you work your compressor(under-rated compressors).

Hey iwannadie,
thx for the links....they look like some kickass tools but definitely waay above my budget (maybe in the near future when i upgrade to a decent compressor).

Any thoughts about the IR that i chose?

oh, would you change your userid to something like "lovinglife"....

I have the 231G. It does the job quite nicely if your compressor is up to the task.

Takes me all of 1 second to open the valve and walk away and I start the compressor before I need it and it takes maybe 2-3 minutes to fill, not a waste of time for me. Money, it sure may cost me a few pennies to refill the tank which I am not going to miss.

I live in Az and it sure is dry here, when I open my release valve I can see ice forming. There must be enough moisture for ice to form. I don't want moisture in my tank where it can rust. Not sure what anyone would gain by not at least making sure there's no moisture in their tank, a few times a year makes no sense to me. I would at least after each use open the drain valve and blast a few seconds of air/moisture out.

I guess I am wasting time and money by oiling my air tools with each use too.

I have a 60 gallon compresor I will bleed the valve a few times a week, but I keep the compressor on most the time. I only turn it off if I am going away for the weekend incase a line pops or something...

I see no real reason to drain it every time.

I guess it depends on how much you use it though, I use mine daily so it makes sense to keep it on. If you use it only on the weekends I can see draining it and turing it off.

I am a weekend user, not even every weekend usually. Just depends on what broke or what tires need air ha.

I have seen a lot of pictures of compressors exploding, I would rather not have the tank sitting there fully pressurized if I don't need it.

Oh, I should mention. I got my IR right angle air drill and used it today and it is awesome. I had to drill in a really tight spot on one of my cars, right under the back window into the rear seat deck. It was also right above the gas tank which an electric drill throwing sparks from the motor would worry me. I have a corded milwaukee magnum hole shooter(old stock american made model) that I was going to get a right angle adapter for. The hole shooter likes to spark a lot though, even though it is inside the housing I can see it sparking. Even with the right angle adapter I may have not had enough room.

The air drill is a real beast, it may not be as strong as my hole shooter but it didn't struggle a bit.

Is this the kit you got?

It comes complete with IR 231G Impact Wrench and IR 170G Ratchet and some sockets.
Here are the spec,

Looks way better than my CH.

I need a little convincing before i click "checkout" :compwork:

Touch down baby!

Comparing IR and CH's ratchet, looks like the trigger for the IR is very "sensitive"....as in trigger movement is fair short compare to CH.
Wish someone can comment.

Oh...

Have not put them to the test yet.

The air ratchet trigger looks strange to me. Does it even move it looks like it is pressed all the way in. My IR ratchet although a different model has a trigger more similar to the CH and all the other ratchets I have seen. Maybe yours somehow got damaged. I would look up pictures on google and see if they are all like that or not.

I forgot to mention, my trigger isn't a speed control trigger. It is just an on/off trigger so even if it has a larger sweep of movement it still might be just on/off with your model as well. Having a smaller range of movement may work out better to get into tight spots rather than having the trigger stick out farther.

Your trigger will pop out like the CH...I thought the same thing about mine when I first got it. When I get home I'll look at it again and snap a pic for you.

Mine does.

It didn't, but works just FINE.
Let's see it.

I try testing out my new IR tools yesterday but being a complete noob, i screwed up the compressor petcock :anon: by tighting it with a pliers :roflmao:, now its leaking....anyway, got a replacement and is all good now.

My impression of the IR compared to CH....
Ratchet- not much different, just a little quieter.
Impact Wrench- WOW! 5 different speed and much more power and it sounded awesome.

Beside it having made in China.....Happy camper here :peace:.

Oh, my first attempt at using the air ratchet to remove my brake caliper......."flying glasses" :shhh: from unexpected torque.

I haven't had much use just yet for the wrench...but I've used the ratchet alot and I love it. My previous was a harbor freight one that just plain sucked. The trigger would stick everytime I'd use it...I actually had to disconnect the air from it a couple times so it'd stop.
