Tools.....air or electirc

I found a cheap and decent Campbell Hausfeld 62 pc set but it says Tool's Comsumption: 6.1 CFM@90 psi.
(Walmart at $79.88 shipped)

My question is, would i be able to power these tools with my new compressor with 5.5 SCFM @ 90psi rating?

Model Number: TL1069
Manufacturer: Campbell Hausfeld
Tool's Consumption: 6.1 CFM @ 90PSI

Thx.

That's why I suggested looking at the tools first then looking comparing the CFM rating to the compressor you are thinking about buying ; ) . I still think a 5.5 cfm compressor is rather low but it's too late now. I am looking forward to a review of your air tools once you get them going. That first time I knocked lugs nuts off in seconds was awesome for me ha.

My air ratchet is still my favorite tool in the garage now. I also just ordered an right angle air drill, can't wait to get that today and see how it is.

Thx bro.
Now to find the right tools.

Any recommendation?

Also stay away from harbor freight tools. At least for anything significant like impact guns and air ratchets. I've had to return an air ratchet twice from there. Plus there stuff is noisy. At least that's my opinion.

Lowe's has a nice Ingersoll Rand kit...$149 for a 1/2 impact, 3/8 ratchet and an impact socket set comes with it too. I just picked it up yesterday.

I agreed, but it's more like a starter/trail run since i've never used an air tool before and didn't wanna break the bank......still need some $ for my LA kit :smoker:.

Nah, i try to stay away from them if possible.
Can't find the IR kit you mentioned, care to provide link?

Thx.

I can't get to lowe's website from work. But if you google "Ingersoll Rand kit; Lowes" it'll be your first choice. I think the model number is 2317G. You can no longer buy it online at Lowes.com apparently, but they have it in store. At least they do at all the local stores around here in Ohio.

Amazon has a really nice ingersoll rand lug nut set for a good price that I love. My IR impact sockets are way better than my craftsmans impact sockets and were about the same price I think.

Don't forget you need impact sockets for your impact gun, do not use regular sockets.

Quick question on a side note...but the answer may help the OP anyway. What's the difference in impact sockets? In other words, what makes one impact socket better than the other? Despite my harbor freight comment above I did by a couple sets of deep well impact sockets from them and I've been very happy. What makes one brand better than the other?

My IR impact sockets have a really gloss nice finish to them, my craftsman impact sockets have a really crappy sorta dry residue coat finish. Every time I handle my craftsman sockets my hands turn black from the dry coat coming off. I wiped them down several times and it didn't help. the IR sockets have very easy to read markings also which helps a lot when you are laying in an awkward position grabbing at sockets. IR's came in a nice plastic carrying case/organizer, craftsman came in their standard tray and the sockets fall out unless it is laying perfectly flat.

Beyond that, I am sure there is a difference in material and fit across brands. Some people will swear harbor freight sockets are fine and that they've used them for 15 years. Others will say snap-on is the only way to go because of superior material, fit and finish. I am sold on IR(bought from amazon), they seem to run the same as craftsman but if I am in a pinch I will buy craftsman down the road at the store. ...I wouldn't touch a harbor freight anything :scottm: .

For those who care, here is the setup and my thoughts....
Kobalt30gsetup1.jpg

My $50 CH retractable reel complete with 50' 3/8" PVC hose form Walmart :loveu:.

(best spot for the compressor, so the sprinkle's timer has to go :D

Did a 30 min break in and was kind of disappointed as it seem too loud for my confort but works out more than fine after i closed the petcock valve.

Now the CH's impact wrench from Walmart,

Oh, ignore the labels....that my "idiot proof to knowing your compressor :laugh3:.

Compressor set at 90psi, pump kicks in after 5th lug nut (i'm guessing thats the cost of having a 30g compressor).
Impact wrench feels ok (not too loud) but the air ratchet is freaking LOUD!
I'm gonna go check out Kobalt or Craftsman's.
Another thoughts about the impact wrench...took a bit of pusuadion to remove the lug nuts, don't think it will be up for the job of axle nut or crankshaft :hang:.
Not sure if it is the compressor or the impact wrench.
Any thoughts?

Thx again.

Its all about PSI/CFM,bottom line.I saw a few here mention drill/die grinders, most of those draw about [email protected] most DA's use more than most compressors can deliver. The best part of air tools is no heat,in my 40yrs of wrenching,Ive never seen ANY electric tool that wont burn up under "SHOP" use.As far as HF goes,I usually buy 4 of the electric 4.5" grinders at a time, since they tend to fail on a daily basis, but Ive never had an issue with their air products(oil them and they will last a long time).

I used to have a HF impact, it lasted about 10 years of use before it died. So for the $ spent on it it was worth it. I have a Matco one that is used and has a crack in the body, we have been meaning to tig it up but it works great.

What would be the best cordless drill I could get for under $200 or so? Wouldn't mind getting air, since I want to get a compressor in the jeep also, but current living arrangements aren't favorable to it right now.

dewalt 18v xrp with the good 3 jaw keyless all metal chuck can be found for $160ish without batteries... $300 w/ 2 batteries. awesome drill. many will recommend the smaller frame models, and if you use it to drive a bunch of wood screws, your forearms will look like popeye's... but that chuck is PURE SEX, and the drill itself has mad power.[/QUOTE]

You want popeye forearms... try doing a whole roof with 16d twist nails every 6" by hand :roflmao: NEVER AGAIN!

I use my 1/2" Milwaukee 120v drill for screws these days. Way better, I like it more than my smaller DeWalt just because it has better grips and lower gearing so I have much better control. I was putting screws through the paper on drywall constantly before I switched from the smaller drill to the larger slower one.

When you say the compressor is set to 90psi, is that the regulator air going out or the tank pressure? My compressor is set at 120psi tank pressure and 90psi at the regulator going out. Maybe that will help it from kicking on so much if your tank is only set to 90.

Don't forget after use to crack open the compressor drain and blow out the air/moisture.

Looks good, but that gun does seem a little weak...

stop buying air tools at wally world, the Campbell-Hausfeld (sp?) stuff they sell isn't that great. get an Ingersol-Rand gun somewhere. watch out for used tools too, they blow seals
I totally agreed guys.
Gonna return them.
I think i should be looking for an impact with at least 350ft lbs like this or maybe IR but would have to do more research.

I have one of those too.....works great for like $15.

Tank air pressure is pre-set to 155psi my manufaturer (non-adjustable afaik), and yes, my output pressure was set to 90 psi (or should i set to 120psi?).

Do i need to drain tank after every use?
(btw, it took only 6 min to pressurized tank from empty, which i'm happy with)

Thx.
