I am wanting to put new tires on my MJ. I am on a limited budget and am looking for 31x10.50 15s. Locally I can get Big O Mud tires for $480 installed.

I can get Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers for $396.88 shipped to my door(3 days).

Or I can get Kumho Venture MTs for about $8 more than the Dunlops.

BFGs(Mud) will be almost $150 more.

I know the BFGs are the ones that all others are measured by, are they really worth the difference in price?

How are the Dunlops? They seem to have good ratings. The truck will see lots of trail action, but nothing real radical, they are only 31s.

I have access to a tire mounting machine and balancer, free (plus 10 years of mounting experience).

Any input would help me make the decision, however price is a big factor.

Hey, Ralph

Have you mounted your OTR's yet? How do you like them? I'm giving mine a good beating and they're holding up pretty well.

For good tire prices check out www.tirerack.com and www.tires.com

My choice would be the BFG MTs,3 ply side wall,at one time they were warrenty that if you got stuck or flat tire they would come get you out.
I think that may have expired--
When I last checked prices between the Dunlop/BFG were only about $15 per tire

So, those that have the High Tech retreads, do you like them?
Would I be better to have the OTRs ot the regular Mud tires?
I like their prices.

I've got about 7k on my 31x10.5-15's and I love them. $270 to my front door in 4 days. I did have one go bad right away (30 miles) and I called them right up about it. No problem, they said and they shipped another to me in another 4 days. Didn't even want proof or the return of the bad tire. Here's pics of what happened:

These are the OTR's which are more aggressive then the plain muds. I wheel the crap out of them and they're holding up really well. They balanced out pretty good too.

the retreads are a great deal, but if you don't like the idea of those, I say go with the Dunlops, really cheap at Tirerack.com (any good tire store should price match) I've heard great things of them, and long tread-life

however, if you wheel in the rocks, you should get MTRs for the stronger sidewall.

Where you driving when that happened? What did the XJ do when it happened?

I went and had them mounted and balanced, picked the missus up from work then parked it at the house. 30 miles total. An hour later, we decided to go struttin' around with the new rubber, got about a mile from the house and I noticed a lump lump lump feeling in the steering wheel and it started to get really bad. Then I started to get a real hard rubbing sound so I pulled over to see what the heck was going on. :scared: 'bout pooped my knickers when I seen that bubble!! I don't think I got over 30 mph before I pulled it over. Glad it didn't let go on the highway!!! At the time, I only had the original 215x75-15 spare to put on. Talk about looking funny w/3" lift and 31's on the other 3 corners. Haven't had a problem with the new one or the other 3 I originally put on.

I have previously talked with the owner on this matter and he said it is very rare that the casings seperate. He also told me that is i was to find a problem he would replace the tire no questions asked.

I've been running them for a couple of weeks now. I haven't had time to get them off road yet. They aren't too loud once they break in a little. They handle well on the street and in the rain.
