ok so I just took the jeep out for the first time with my 35s on a simple snow run. When i was in 4wd I noticed a thumping noise when starting from a stop going up hill. It stops once you get going or are driving on flat road or down hill ( no load). The niose increases and decreases with the speed of the jeep and you can feel it in the floor. Kinda sound like something stuck to my front DS and lightly hitting the floor pan but nothing is there. Checked the DS for play and everything seems solid. ANY IDEAS?????

thanks

Did you lift the Jeep any more than it had been before the 35's?
When this happened to me, the centering pin inside the double cardan joint had given up the ghost.
Remove the driveshaft to be sure, and then rebuild it when you are sure.
You can get all the parts you need at any Napa or whatever.
Have a good one.

Nope same lift, thats what I was thinking but I didnt know you can get the parts from Napa, thanks!!!

Just a guess...

There is a pin that goes into a ball that resides in a cup in the middle of that CV joint. Have fun taking it apart, it will remind you of those novelty chinese puzzles you got at carnivals as a kid. The ball is about $20 at Napa, and the 3 ujoints are not much more.
On another note, most drivetrain shops keep rebuilt shafts around to sell.
A friend called one and they traded him a rebuilt one for his and $125.
They were selling it for $200 straight cash.
HTH.

yah the more I think about it I am just going to replace the whole shaft, with 121,000 miles on it, its probably a good idea. Thanks for all the info

If you like, but...

Take the shaft out, for now, and make some calls to drivetrain shops in your area. Most will rebuild the whole shaft for around $150. New ujoints, cv joint, and balancing, and they sometimes even paint it for you.
Good luck.
