So i know alot of the jeepspeed guys run a ford 9in or 8.8. My buddy is getting rid of his 10 bolt for close to nothing. I dont know much about the 10 bolt so i guess i was wondering would it be easy install and how would it perform??

I would never on purpose put a 10 bolt in to Anything. I repair (new gears and bearings) just as many 8.6/8.6 GM axles as I do D35's....

I would look for a d44 to save money and not reduce any benifits..

D44 you can run a spool wirh out a cclip eliminator kit and a spool is what most will run...

8.2 or 8.5"*

They aren't THAT bad, but no, i wouldn't swap one in. i blew one up in my van, but it was very neglected, and VERY abused.

8.8 is stronger than the 8.25
The only advantage the 44 has is safety hubs

The d44 has more advantages.
All parts cost less
All part are available
Width
Poss bolt in
Gear ratio poss

Doesn't the 8.8 have a stronger housing than a 44?

about equal in stock form.
8.8 has poor tube retention and small roller axle bearings.
D44 has slightly smaller tubes

The 10 bolt's biggest issue was the stock carrier. When my friend put a full spool in, he never had another gear set up issue. Ran 33" 12.50's on a desert truck that was also his DD. I still didn't like the issues he had at first so I wouldn't do it, but it held up to some crazy desert whoop sections eventually.

I ran an 8.8 in my Ranger for years, again a desert truck. C-clips suck, you always worry about them. The we welded the tubes in. I never really had a problem though.

That said the D44 is much cheaper to make reliable, work on, get parts for, so I went that route with my Jeep. Yeah to change an axle you have to cut off the outer bearing but oh well, better than a C-clip!

a buddy runs the one in his SAS'ed ZR2 blazer, 4.88s with a spartan. up front he has a heavy half 44, RCVs, and hydro assist turning 35" KM2s on walker evans... 10 bolts have 30 spline shafts and a 8.5" ring gear. on the surface its very comparable to a D44. but maybe im wrong. hes pretty rough on his rig, completely tore a knuckle off of the 44 and has even had to warranty out an RVC. but the 10 bolt has been flawless.

is that enough for me to put one in? no... there are much better options i feel.
