This is Progress?....

JohnX carries a 1.75" lock blade pocket knife.

1994....His 60 year old history teacher borrows it to cut some string because she can't find her scissors.

1995...John is in a fist fight with another boy one night at church. The next morning John is called to the office, he is arrested and expelled for carrying the knife after the other boys parents complained about the fight. Mind you, the knife was never mentioned or seen, but thats all they could find to bust him for.

I learned a few things that day.

There are fanatics on both sides, of the how to raise a kid arguement. Remember the mother that was charged in Colorado because her toddler was running around the back yard naked?
A little more individuality, tolerance and parental input into the whole process, might be benefitial. A little less state and a little more community.
Many households have two working parents and even when they are home, the daily chores and such leave them little time to actually know there kids or have much input into there character.
The state, the federal government and others have way to much input into raising our kids. Common sense seems to have been displaced by the rule of law and pedagogal theory on many levels. People underestimate kids, we are likely raising a whole generation of younguns, that start out young, trying to figure out ways around the law (or rules) and with way to little parental input.

I (and my whole class) once had running rock fight with the next higher age group class, after bible study. We kicked butt.:gee:

I talk about this a lot with some of my co-workers.

When I was in high school(early 80's) we bought and sold guns to each other right off the tailgate of our trucks after school! I know that the town that I live in is a "hick town" but if you even attempt that now the swat team would converge and wipe out a few teenagers.

It was a well known fact then, that you only used a gun to hunt with and if you had a problem with another guy you just fist fought him the old fashion way. After the fight you would pick each other up and move on with life.

Hell we drank beer after school, in the open parking lot, and no one said anything unless we made too much noise, drove too fast, or had too much brew.

I miss the "good ole days". I would hate to be a kid now!!
