This drinking and driving BS has to stop

Some drunk bastard in a Cherokee "lost control" and did a head on crash into a vehicle out side of Allenspark yesterday. My Ex-son in law and my grand daughter were in the vehicle he hit and sent over a 50 foot cliff. My grand daughter was lucky and only had a gash across her face and had 7 stitches but here dad, the sober driver is in very touchy condition. He has all kinds of broken bones, his whole face is shattered and has been in surgery multiple times to relieve pressure from multiple brain bleeds. We still don't know if he is going to make it or if he does, if he will be brain damaged. Things don't look good.

Boy I hope it wasn't one of our guys, cause right now I don't know what I would do if I knew who it was.

The only reason the perp got taken to the hospital was for a blood test. My ex son-in-law got flight for life. He damn well better have insurance.

I'm not a part of your chapter, but noticed the thread title... my thoughts/prayers are with you and your family. Hope everything turns out OK...

Sucks indeed Tom! :(

In our prayers...

So sorry to hear about this! I agree... how dumb do you have to be to mix drinking and driving..?? Hope everything turns out well. Your family is in my prayers! Let us know if you need anything!

I can empathise wholeheartedly. When I was younger, we lost my uncle Wayne to a driving while intox - when they caught the guy, he was too drunk to walk! So he drove.

Kharma is a bitch - as is irony. Turns out the driver got splashed in his turn about a year later - he was on foot, and a drunk driver ran his ass down. I had mixed feelings about that...

A brain injury is survivable (believe me, I know!) but it depends on an awful lot. "Brain damage" is also highly relative - I've got my own post-traumatic neurological disorders that I'm fighting with. Again, I do understand. Human life is, in turns, incredibly frail and incredibly resilient.

Not much I can do from here, but you have my empathy (and my sympathy.) Here's hoping!

It's easy enough to find out who he is, chances are he'l be in the bar again soon enough or where ever and you'll know who he is and he won't know you. Hmmm, interesting situation. I hope all turns out well with your family, if not a man has to do what a man has to do.

We're hoping/praying for the best Tom.

I'm also from another chapter, but I'd like to chime in that I sincerely hope everybody pulls through and with minimal damage.

I'm with you completely on the drinking and driving situation. Drunken idiots behind the wheel disgust me more than regular murderers. They are somehow much worse.

Here's to the good guys.

Agreed! The BS needs to stop! Short of a mandatory 1 year prison term and a $10000 fine plus compensation for medical care nothing is going to change at all...... people just do not care! Your family will be in my prayers!

The doctors said it would be 72 hours before we knew anything.

Latest update:
He is back in surgery now. They are going back in to remove the packing and sponges they used to slow the brain bleeds. They are also going to put a rod in his femur to try and stabilize his leg. Just before surgery they lightened his sedation and he was able to respond and move all his limbs so that is a good sign but he is a long way from being out of the woods.
