Howdy,

I am thinking about turning my XJ into a street machine to try some racing kinda like the X games Rally course. Some street and some dirt elements to the course.
I want to add a bunch of horsepower/ torque and make it handle better.

I have a 2000 XJ 4dr 4x4 4.0 auto.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for you input

Buy a corvette ;) There is not really alot to be gained from the 4.0L so please clarify what you mean by "a bunch".:D

Stroker and/or turbo for the power, lower it w/ some stiffer springs and good shocks, bigger swaybars, poly suspension bushings, limited slip, better brakes, lower profile tires, weight reductions, and the list could go on. . .

Ditch the idea on the 4wd pick up a 2wd and use it... that said follow Gradons plan and you would be good to go.Bump stop it correctly and trim fenders a bit. Check out jeepspeed section or just google it. You can hall butt in a 2wd set up well even in the dirt.

Build a 4.6 stroker, swap in a manual tranny, and lighten it as much as possible for starters.

E3 sparkplugs 8 hp
Nology plug wires 6 hp
MSD box 15 hp
K&N filter 12 hp
Aftermarket air tube 24 hp
Headers 20 hp
Catback exhaust 15 hp

There's 100 extra HP! ;)

Except he doesn't have wires nor a distributor.. so that is at least minus 11 hp + 20 for the missing stickers. Nor can he use hearers... so another 10 there.

To use the Nology wires you have to put in an old style distributor.

Seriously though 150HP worth of mods? Not going to happen without boost or n20. Sounds like a magazine pimping their advertisers.

You can't just drop in a distributor in a dis less system. Have to change the PCM and harness as well.

I was reading somewhere that you can add 150+ horsepower to a 4.0 with the right additions.
Ya that would require an entire rebuild forged this and that, most would havto be custom and some serious boost so it would be a drag car basicly, and that will do you no good on the street or when talking to the smog police, BUT just FYI a stroker, or even some basic upgrades will give more power, and for some reason it is very noticeable in the 4.0s...

I took me about 1200 for a mostly stock build, and a 200 .....wait that would be alot of fun.......
