Things that I LOVE about stock XJ's

Thats cool. I know the LS is a NICE ride. I own a 03 Caravan. :shhh: 3 kids. Wife wouldn't let me get a cargo van with the MOTHER - IN - LAW cage in the back though...

Hehehe....

I'm not stock anymore but I like the fact that my mother-in-law can't get in....

#1 on my list is size. I had an '01 Ram 1500 before I traded it for the '01 XJ and I could not fit down half the trails I do now. The XJ is big enough to carry my gear and small enough to get me through the trails :)

What do I like?

The little foam pad under the ignition to keep your keys from making noise against the steering colunm.

What foam pad? I don't have one on my 2000. What is that? Any pix? :dunno:

It is the toughest goddam vehicle at any price!
It is easier to work on than my lawn mower.
I beat 6 cylinder Acura and a BMW in a race, and the owners were about to cry!!!!! I said, gosh thats pretty pitiful your import sports coupes couldn't beat my 160,000 mile 4X4 Jeep!!!
I could go on and on. mine has 190,000 miles now and has been infinitely more reliable than any one else's toyota, honda, or bimmer. best vehicle money can buy for basic reliable capable transport!

I am a big FSJ (full size Jeep fan), and I think the XJ series was a worthy successor to the FSJ's. One thing both SJ's and XJ's share is the very low profile, while maintaining good ground clearance. These vehicles were designed to be 4x4's from the beginning and are far more compact than other contemporary 4x4's. XJ's are some of the most off-road capable SUV's (and God I hate that acronim) in stock form built in the last 20 years, among the last to have solid axles front and rear, with a reasonably flexy stock suspension, good ground clearance, solid and efficient powertrains... These vehicles will comfortably seat five adults, and are still smaller the monster SUV's people like to drive nowadays. They are as big as they need to be and compact enough to be nimble and get 22MPG, and they do off-road as nicely and they ride on the road. They are still being made in China, so the XJ is not yet dead... :)

1. How it pisses off the wife when she has to drive it with a pillow.
2. How it pisses off the wife when I buy something for the Jeep.
3. How it makes her happy when I can get to a lake to go swimming with the kids and on the way out she can go Jeep surfing.

I love the balls my 4.0's got. It's 4 seconds quicker to 60 than my friends explorer 4.0. HeeHee. I love how it's kept its value (Kellies blue book says bout $5,000 for a 1992). I love how much better it looks than any other suv, especially the H2. (anyone ever notice hummers have abreviated Jeep grills?) I love that I am yet to be passed at a streetlight ;-) I love how it handles. And most of all it begs me to take it down the less beaten path or trail.
I love my XJ!

How could I forget, the plastic pannels on the side!! A lady backed into the side of my xj :( and needed a new bumper on her 2004 maxima and my 12 year old xj just had a little scratch! She couldnt stop asking why nothing happed to my car... and I thought to myself well its a jeep, the toughest 4 letter word on the road!

For $800 or less sometimes you can pick up a working, stock or slightly modified capable off-road and on-road vehicle.

I've managed (with purchase price) to spend a total of $1,400 and have already moved my family from an apartment to a house cheaper than getting a moving truck!

I ripped through the wiring and now I can tow anything, and I do mean ANYTHING!

The previous owner made things too complex, so I ripped half of the jeep apart and I now have a body, axles, wheels, tires, a steering wheel, engine, tranny, gas tank, and seats.

AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON I LOVE XJ'S, is because it gives my wife and I a chance to bond while we work together on it.

awwww c'mon yall gonna just let this die?? Apparently not that many of you feel like you need to voice your opinon about what you like best about your xj..

I'll voice my opinion then lol. Things I love about my XJ:

1. Mods go on really easy!
2. Unlimited mods to be had for an XJ!
3. 140K and no major problems!
4. Love the 4.0HO!
5. Comes with solid axles!
6. A modified (lift added) XJ's articulation almost cannot be matched, gota love that!
7. Easy to work on!
8. Unibody!
9. One of the most versatile vehicles I've every seen/owned, whether off-roading or cruise'n on road!
10. Last but not least, it's made by Jeep. You know,...... "it's a Jeep thing" and you ALL understand LOL!!!!!! ;)

3) Headroom, I get into alot of todays vehicles and have to sit with my head cocked to one side.
You obviously don't have power seats. I had to get power seats or my wife could see anything. So now she can see a little, she's under 5 feet tall, and I barely fit, I'm 6'2". I think head room was not on my "positive" list. But there are still plenty of reason's to like it!

Getting into the throttle at 50 mph and feeling the truck rock to the right and push me back into my seat.
It'll run with my co-workers f/s V-8 trucks (4.8L/5speed/2wd Chevy and 5.9L/Auto/4wd Dodge) on the street and be the only stocker of the three.
Get a Briarwood or Wagoneer (the "woody" models) and have the ultimate sleeper XJ (little sister has reinforced that one on many occasions!)
Telling co-worker that the reason you got down a muddy road was because you were driving a Jeep, after he left his Explorer at the paved road and walked a mile to get where you are so he wouldn't get his truck stuck (Dad this time, and to add insult to injury, his XJ was in 2wd and didn't need 4wd till he went to leave and climb a muddy hill!)

245k miles.
Easy to fix (usually)
Goes anyhere I want to go.
I'm having trouble breaking it!

Classic looks will never get old
Easy to work on. With practice, I can now have one lifted in about two hours.
Tough design, solid axles.
Even though my 4.0 has had several problems since I bought it almost a year ago, it never stalled or stopped running. Drove it for about 3-4 miles after blowing a radiator hoses and overheating. No problemo. Constant check engines, but it wont give up.
Tons of cargo space with rear seat folded down.
My 97 interior is very nice. Throughout all the headaches I've had with the motor, one of the things I can't let go of is the beatiful interior. Compare it to a Ford, Chevy, or GMC interior :shiver:
My gf loves it and my best bud is jealous

I live in Winnipeg and regardless of season, -45'C cold, +40'C heat, rain sleet snow, water, unplowed roads, downed trees, curbs, boulevards. It Always ALWAYS maintains a simple point and go interface.

It's tough as nails, AWSOME capability stock, and even better with a couple super cheap or DIY mods. And nobody ever doubts it's capability even though it is a "small" SUV.

It's tons of fun to watch cute petite girls try to climb in when they are weraing a skirt.

I don't have to bend down to get in, it has plenty of well used space. I can hide a small workshop's worth of tools in it.

Looks like a big red brick! Some cars are built to look sleek, some are built to work. It goes for cars too, "If the women don't find you handsome, make sure they find you handy."

4.0 and plenty of go. I LOVE to shut down those little tuned up ricer cars off the line, even though I'm mostly stock, at 220 000 Km, and with bigger tires at that.

Overall the best designed vehicle ever made for daily use.

Is it bad that my "Baby Girl" is butch?

I love that I can throw the back seat down and load up the dogs (2 Big Labs), a cooler, some tools, camping gear. and just go wherever!
