I believe so, I have done this pump on a 5.0 van and a 5.8 van. There is a seal at the bottom of the WP cover. and I think once you pull the cover the seal can be replaced without dropping the oilpan.

Nice. Thanks for the heads up. My coworker's sister owns an Explorer and she wanted me to give it a tuneup. I would have suggested a WP change as part of it.

It must be a Ford thing. My 73 F250 and 390 requires that I pull the whole radiator to get the bolts out of the fan/fan pulley, which must be done before I can get the last bolt out of the water pump. I thought it would be nice and easy since I can practically take a nap in all that open space under the hood, but they found a way to screw with me...
