Greetings to all!
Let me start off by saying that the few threads I've read don't seem to be cluttered with all the B.S. that the past forums I've been on had.
In my short 19 years on this earth I have always loved vehicles. I'd annoy the hell out of my mom with engine noises as a wee little lad. Ever since the 6th grade I've been into the sport compacts (read: Hondas). I've already had two civics that were actually quite nice (no rice jokes, ya hear?). I finally got the chance to sell my second one and make money off of it. As I was car shopping a few months ago, I went through every idea possible of a next vehicle. I wanted to get out of the "import scene" as we all know its gone to hell with these damn youngins speeding around the roads and causing trouble. I almost bought an early 90s VW golf that was turbocharged and really clean...but that fell through.
Then I decided I wanted a big vehicle. No more lack of cargo space. No more driving like a drunken idiot on pot-hole filled roads. No more creeping with a line of traffic behind me over a speed bump. No more getting pulled over ever weekend night because of my shady profile. I had had enough.
So, that's what has led me here. I bought a sweet XJ. It was really an act of God how I came across this one. My dad and I were finishing a long tiring day of car shopping starting in south Atlanta and working our way up to the northside of town where we live. When I was ready to give up, he pulled into the Chevy used lot. I knew there was nothing in here and I was ready to go. As we were about to leave, a guy about my age pulled up looking for a Silverado. He was driving this white 1998 Cherokee Sport with a Rusty's 4.5" lift and 33" Mastercraft Courser M/Ts on black Rockcrawlers. I started drooling. I halfway ran to him asking how much. I wanted this thing so bad. We swapped phone numbers and I met up with him a few days later to drive it. Wow. Going from a civic that was less that 3" off the ground to this thing. Quite a difference. But I was giggling at the feeling it brought. So much fun just waiting to be uncorked. I don't know why I had never thought of a Jeep before. All my buddies had bigger vehicles but I refused and kept getting speeding tickets in the civics.
Now that I have this thing. I feel kinda bummed that I have to start all over. I knew my sport compacts inside out. I'm use to engines that don't blink at the sight of 8,500 rpm. I'm use to 35+ mpg. I'm use to running with Meguiars cleaner in-hand at the sight of a mudpuddle.
I hope that you guys will help me out on this new endevor. Please forgive me of stupid questions. I am a quick learner, but there is so much I don't know. I don't even know what kind of axles I have :-(
I hate being the newbie.... but I guess we all start somewhere. I look forward to talking to all of you and gaining as much knowledge as I can
