I have had quite a bit of success with my current KO ATs. They are much beefier in exactly the area that mine are week. The tread corners. However ill probably going to a much more aggressive tire when i upgrade axles.
Well the said that my breater hose had a hole in it and said they wouldn't even test it.
Has anyone else had pressure release and a little smoke when they've removed their gas cap? I went to put gas in the stupid thing last night and it sounded like I was opening a carbonated drink, and there was a little smoke around the fill hole. Could my gas cap be bad? Or a plugged evap line?
As far as I know thats a good sign. The cap is supposed to keep vapors in so your tank doesnt just evaporate away. The "smoke" may have just been compressed gas being released? They always pressure tested my tank and my cap on my 89, I wouldn't worry about it. id rather fail visual and have to fix a hose than chase down sensors to get it back in spec. Good luck on the sniffer
does your exhaust dump at your tank? this is not good . sounds like fuel boiling practically. our buddy Bill had his exhaust shooting right at his gas tank = gas shooting out of tank. re route your exhaust.
I don't have any pictures of the welds to fix the cracks, but here it is all painted in high heat black.
Beginning of the actual head rebuild.
Blasting the head.
Grinding the valve face.
Grinding the valve seats.
Printing the valves. Nice even contact all the way around. I left more of a contact point on the exhaust valves for better heat transfer to keep from sticking a valve.
Putting new leaf springs in that I got from 831xj. (thanks again man).
Took the potato to hollister to see how the springs rode before going to the con.
Poser pic.
Backtracking a little but also staying on topic at the same time, after running fordyce and going to the reno run my gas tank had suffered a lot of dents due to the factory plastic bush guard, so I upgraded just before going to the con.
Dropped the tank and guard.
Metal skid in. It's a factory skid plate I picked up from BigK, Thanks for the awesome deal man!
Hub replacement the night before leaving for the con. Nothing like the last minute.
Yeah I did. I did a full 3 angle grind on the head, and a single 45 on the valve head. It was a great learning experience. Though looking back on it, I wish I would have replaced my valves as well. The stems were a little loose in the guides.
That's a bummer man, but I agree with you! More time for Jeep!
The con wasn't done surprising me... when I dropped the old tank, the exhaust came with it. Guess I broke the inlet to the muffler when I set the potato down on a rock.
After repairs, took it on a little jog down old coast road.
Poser pictures at Hollister for SandG's.
So I had a little bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket, but not enough for me to really play with on the jeep...so I bought a flipper car. It's a 1998 BMW 528i sport package with leather, power everything, BBS 2 piece wheels, and 6 disc changer.
Went to Hollister with Moparmansfield just after the rain, but it wasn't too sloppy.
Tarantula!
While there and going up a hill I noticed a ton of white smoke coming from under the jeep, and the smell of burning ATF. Turns out the Rear seal on the Tcase gave up.
Awesome pics and work. Looks like you all had a great time. Wrenching is a good thing. It'll help keep you busy after a breakup, helped me immensely last year.
