The road to Moab re-visited.....What 35,500 pounds of explosives does to a major HWY.

This is kind of a continuance of a post in the IC forum that Dirk Pitt started. Although this isn't the only way for us Wasatch Front (UT) wheelers to get to Moab, it's certainly the shortest. This is what happened when a truck carrying 35,500 pounds of explosives overturned and exploded on HWY 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon. This happened on the 10th of this month. The railroad tracks in these pictures are the ones that I run on for work. We were down for only a day as the UP got their mainline opened back up within a matter of hours.

Wow, how did that explode?
Was anyone hurt, or better question, killed? Do you know what the explosives were going to be used for?
It's called pentolite, a high-end explosive product specifically designed for blasting in mining, construction and seismic exploration.

Pentolite, that blew all this away, is a 50 percent combination of TNT and what is called Pentaerythritoltetranitrate.
No one was killed.

For safety's sake, shouldn't they be leaning on shovels?

Now imagine what a directed blast would've done...

lucky SOB driver...

news reports claim the driver was speeding according to eyewitnesses...

:lecture: I call BS! It's a conspiracy. I don't see any evidence of a tractor trailer, and explain to me how the driver could survive that blast. I think the CIA is behind it. They're blocking the Mormons escape. :gag:

It was hot that day, and hey, this is Utah..... 90% of the state has the super-ultra-mega-sized-refillable Big Gulp.
