The prettiest Renix you'll see today...

The "football" one was used if you had cruise control (servo is vacuum operated) whereas the "softball" is used if you did not (all it served was HVAC controls and 4x4 vacuum disconnect D30 and light switch if you had a 231).

Is this true only for RENIX Jeeps?

Because I'm fairly certain the newer ones used the softball shaped ones. My both my '99s with cruise have the softball canisters. My '91 with cruise has the football though.

'91 ain't Renix ;)

It did change in the later models, I do not know where the divide was, I've never been motivated enough to look behind my '96s bumper. I have noticed fully equipped late body styles (such as Remi's old '98 when he was disassembling it) with a softball.

Yes, I know '91 aint Renix :D H.O. all the way.

When I said newer, I meant later year models, as in like '97+. I added the bit about my '91 just as an observation.

Yeah, just 35s.
yeah, with the front clip off, the tires look huge!
A lot of my wheeling buddies are going to 37s, but I manage to resist. Just more money, work and trouble than they're worth to me.
i feel the same way about 35s!
well, or 33s..
32s..
31s..
i'll stick with myk 245/75r16s..
..yup, I wheel happily and confidently on 30.5s!!

and on topic - talk about a transormation!!
hats off to you - truly clean work!!

wow, that is the prettiest renix that ive seen.... today

I am a H.O. whore, and I hate the renix...

I don't hate the Renix, it's nice and simple, and simple is good. But I realize that this is the prettiest renix ever because nobody else would go to all that bother, and then not upgrade to the HO.

But I stumbled into the crate engine essentially for free, so I ran with it.

I'd bet he ground the shoulders off the bolt areas under the cover so he could use a rubber gasket from a late model stamped steel valve cover.

Uh oh.

All I did was go into Advance and buy the good, reusable gasket (supposedly for my 89) instead of the cheap cork one. It ain't leaking yet... :(

beautifull engine bay, bravo.

OCD, new engine, or both?

Both. The crate engine came with the parts rig I bought last august But was just the head and block:

My rig was so nasty (see post #9) that I could stand to drop a nice new engine into it.

So I started cleaning and painting. When I finally pulled the engine out of the crate, my engine bay was prettier than it was.

So I cleaned and repainted my brand new engine, to keep up with my 21 year old beater. :D

I told you so.

Why would anybody "upgrade" to an HO? The Renix system can run on less sensors (ie, you don't need a TPS!) and is more tolorant to stroking.

Renix is the best!

You should set yourself up with a new pressure bottle, and ditch the yellowed one. Its like $54 from the dealer, but worth every penny. We bought one of the ebay ones for a buddies rig and the outlet nipple was snapped off when we pulled it from the box. Real high quality....

It was only a couple years old, and cleaned up really nice. It only turned yellow/green when I filled it with coolant.

Does look funky, though.

Oh yeah, how long did it take you to polish that manifold? Are your arms still rubber?

That is an EXTREME home (Jeep) makeover. Very nice. Top up your brake fliud...

That's a new master, full of brand new (completely clear) fluid. Hadn't even been bled yet. The grey section is just a shadow.

I didn't hand-polish much of it. I blasted the whole thing, then hit the topside with a drill-mounted wire wheel. There was very little to finish up by hand.

Most of what shows is the stamped-metal heat sheild. That I just painted, Rustoleum silver metallic.

damn. damn. damn. best looking renix ive seen for two days running.

Thanks. I'm shooting for renix-of-the-week. :D

Stupid question. When you guys clean up an engine, what do you use to shine the plastic/rubber. Is it some type of wax?

I replaced a lot of soft rubber. The stuff I did reuse I hosed down with dubya-dee, scrubbed down, and repeated.

The hard plastic, I mostly painted. The p/s pump is au naturel, and the battery, but most everything else is rustoleum...
