I'm pretty sure I could've titled it "The prettiest Renix you'll ever see," but as soon as I did, somebody'd argue the fact...

Anyway, I finally got my sloppy jalopy out of the garage, and I just HAD to show it off:

That is awesome!

I may steal your vacuum canister idea.

Terrific execution, better than new!

Thanks.

Fair warning, the vacuum res won't fit under a stock hood like that.

I had my hinges up on 3/4" spacers before.

Now, I can't bear to even put the hood back on at all!

Would the vacuum canister fit under the coolant tank?

good lord, i wish mine looked something like that under the hood. mines custom done in leaked motor oil and dust. its almost hard to believe that is a renix under the hood its so clean.

that doesn't look like a renix valve cover, I've thought about replacing mine, were there any fitment issues. reason i ask is because vendors seem to list the renix years and h.o years separately.

Not neatly, but you could probably jam it in there at an angle.

Where's the fan shroud!

Mine has never had one, and the one on my parts rig was cut in half and duct-taped back togeher.

You got a good source on a cheap new one, or a decent used one? I didn't even know where to look for one...

mines custom done in leaked motor oil and dust... nevermind question you painted it eh?

Dude, I painted everything! :D

For perspective, this is what mine looked like about halfway done:

Better now, huh?

Yes it did, back when it was new ;)

I always pick them up at the yard when I see a good once, I have three or four spares (hey, I have two Jeeps!). Chrysler Parts Direct has it for $35.37, the part number is 52027501AC. A new one should hold up well, tehy don't get brittle for a few years.

The tires look huge in the first pic, but looking at the last I realize you probably have the same tires as me.

Also I was expecting a pretty renix rig...haha. That engine is CLEAN though. Wish mine didn't leak, that's all I ask for. :-/

Yeah, just 35s. A lot of my wheeling buddies are going to 37s, but I manage to resist.

Just more money, work and trouble than they're worth to me.

nice, very clean

you win its the prettiest renix i have seen today

That is a Renix aluminum valve cover that has been painted. He has a rubber gasket in there, I'd bet he ground the shoulders off the bolt areas under the cover so he could use a rubber gasket from a late model stamped steel valve cover.

All 4.0 valve covers will swap back and forth, the only difference is the CCV tube stuff and oil fill plug.

Another dusty but painted renix cover:

Renix question:

is there any benefit to the "football" shaped vacuum canister over the smaller "softball" shaped one? Was there any "rhyme or reason" as to which one was used??

The "football" one was used if you had cruise control (servo is vacuum operated) whereas the "softball" is used if you did not (all it served was HVAC controls and 4x4 vacuum disconnect D30 and light switch if you had a 231).
