So I'm procrastinating on doing my taxes and I came across this thread (missed it as I was still in Kansas...ugh), so I read it from beginning to end.
Two things on my mind...
Baby boomers (majority, not all...we seem to have some sane ones here) are going to screw those of us not retiring in the next 15-20 years. I read a quote sometime ago, wish I could remember who, but it was something to the effect of..."the problem with a democracy is it allows all the idiots to vote in 'bread and circuses'"...or something to that effect. Meaning we got exactly what the majority wants...free food (health care/welfare) and entertainment (Obama the TV star). I'm not picking on democracy, as I still thinks its the best deal out there, but good ol' USA is seeing the result of lack of personal responsibility and being spoiled. I would challenge any liberal to spend some good quality time in a non-Westernized foreign city. I'm talking China, Taiwan, South America, etc. Maybe they will see how good we really have it. While it may not be Utopia its better, as is, than 99% of everything else out there.
Also, today on Fox...they were debating a poll that stated 20% of Americans thought SOCIALISM is or would be better that a Democracy. Now that scares the piss out of me...I didn't get to watch too much of it but the fact that those numbers are that high, tells me there are some uneducated folks out there that don't know what's going on outside our country or what has happened in the past. Maybe they are over educated people thinking they can improve on a system that hasn't worked so well. I don't know but if things go the way they appear, I'm hoping for the latter.
