THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Stove thread

Yeah I'm honestly fine with that function if it helps the people who, like the article said, only tow like 2 times a year and have no idea what they're doing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Stove thread

Come on what? Thats badass.

heading upstate tomorrow morning to my friend's cabin. gonna do some expo style wheeling and hopefully find a few good trails.
Driving is becoming how little can you know and still do it and no longer a skill. Automatic and aids for everything which just let people think less.
So now what happens when someone tags something with the front of the truck or trailer because they were to busy playing a video game on their dash rather than paying attention to their surroundings and backing up "like you should"?

Seems much to much unneeded to me. Like the parallel parking assist thing. Lane departure warning I can understand though. It is all neat tech, but gosh this is just letting people be dumb, IMO. This is to sell trucks to the "I need to google that" and 'can't think for myself generation'. Harsh, maybe.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Stove thread

I think the trailer assist is a WAY better feature in that sense than blind spot monitoring, auto braking, etc.

Yeah but see that isn't my point. I think the greater point is stuff like any of that allows people to not think. Not act on their surroundings. I think the tech is all cool and great that it exists but the larger issue is society as a whole needs to understand these are aids and not things to be relied upon. No different that the draftsman that needs to start out learning with a pencil and a square before jumping into AutoCAD or Solidworks; I think people need to get what is going on in the world around them and that is happening less and less these days. So I guess my problem isn't with Ford or that the tech is around more that people suck. Haha.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Stove thread

Oh yea, I agree with that 100%. The biggest thing with all those monitors and whatever too is that bc of safety regs, new cars have blind spots that are unavoidable... so you need all the BS blind spot and park assist bc you literally cannot see out of it.

This.

Not this.

Equals "I can look down and text until my car/truck beeps at me, then I immediately overcorrect and swerve back the other way".

I've come to the conclusion that I'll never own a new car/truck, and likely that my 2005 is probably the newest thing I'll ever own, unless I build it myself. Kind of a sad state of affairs. :/

I had not thought of it that way.
I was thinking more for the older folks who drift just driving down the road.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Stove thread

Yeah I wasn't thinking the bear did it, I was just saying it has also been roaming around still. I would have thought the same thing. I had no idea some animals just ate the head to begin with

Pumped for a 3 day weekend. What's everyone up to?
probably finish cleaning out my parents shed of my crap, get my trailer brakes working again, and spend endless hours with caitlin on petfinder looking at dogs

Headed to New Orleans for 4 days, anyone have any suggestions on things to do? Besides get eaten by a gator, drowned by a hurricane, or stabbed by a hobo?
you could recanted some scenes from a street car named desire

if used properly the new safety technology is great only problem is people are not using them properly. I think back up cameras would be better if you mounter the display behind the driver instead of the dash its too much movement on the drivers part to switch from looking behind you and adn looking at the display.

i am not fearful of car automation because i think it can do a better job than humans. but i am fearful of the transitions of automatic tasks and manual tasks which will probably end up causing new issues that we dont typically see today. Take the automated semi that freight line is testing out in nevada, really cool tech i can get behind it think it is perfect up until the point that it needs manual driving for on/off ramps. the driver is goingt o be doing nothing for 10 hours then he has to get up and drive the thing 10 ft and then go back asleep for another 10 hours

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Stove thread

I think we're a long way off from seeing any sort of automated semi in the Northeast for a lot of reasons. The idea of the truck train is kind of silly to me as well- much more efficient to throw containers on a rail line in most instances, just not as quick.

RE: Future Tech/Safety Tech etc

It very quickly turns into an I-robot situation when talking about what-ifs. First, it will be great. Then someone is going to figure out how to use it to their advantage. Robot terrorism or some crap like that. It goes back to what Bill said:

People suck.
