I was pretty convinced that post was a joke, but apparently not? What was so special about that car that made him go all the way out there to buy it?

It's 4x4, 5 speed, and capable of getting 40-50mpg if driven gently* and well maintained**. The city doesn't plow my road in the winter and I drive 140 miles a day round trip, so it's a good combination. Assuming unicorn parts don't break, because then I'm shit outta luck :wow:

Why out there? Well, a friend found it and the price was right. zero rust on the important stuff - this is a 21 year old muffler hangar with 231k miles on it:

Gold chromate plating and undercoating still intact. The whole car is like this.

The forester I got was a target of opportunity, it was $300, would pass inspection easily, and was available immediately. The second I have the Justy fixed up, the forester will be on craigslist for too much money. The one I actually wanted was a Justy, but they're impossible to find out here unless you don't mind having no floors or other sheetmetal left below knee height. I've been looking for over a year because gas prices were absolutely murdering me with the XJ.

Also it'll do 80mph (eventually) if you play Jesus Built My Hotrod, so there's that.


Monstrous front brakes. Yeah, my hand is on the rotor, not a foot back from it.

Gigantic clutch, too. No camera tricks on this one either.
