Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bill came over yesterday and pretty much installed my new pressure tank for me. Took a bit longer than expected but everything is great now.

Hung some shelving after building a table over the pressure tank and cleaning up after yesterday. Should finally be able to start on the duster next weekend.

cough cough. You forgot about the idiot who pulled petty pranks on you all evening long.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Billy almost killed me with that damn can.

You coming to the backyard in a few weeks?
I plan to. Hopefully in something I can wheel, but probably not at this point, the MJ needs a metric ****load of work and my last wheeling trip on my fly ass twenny5s on the XJ did not go so well.

Don't forgot the straddling. I'm glad you came by.

Quick question
If I mount my steering over the knuckle and over the pitman arm wouldn't that maintain stockish geometry? The axle is the same with as stock as far as the distance from the steering knuckles to the pitman arm.

would be better off not raising the steering at the pitman arm, and raising the trackbar at the axle instead.

flatter angles=more better.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Stupid question guys
If I find just a decent rear axle, imagine 4.10s per se
And I wanted to regear my front Dana 30 and lock it at the same time to match said rear.
A Truetrac would replace the carrier, so the splines on the axle shaft would then slide into the locker correct?
So if I was to lock my current d30, I could use normal axle shafts instead of the axle shafts that are impossible to comprehend in this reality , right?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yes.

You'd still need to put a different seal in the housing for the passenger side, since you'd be doing a vac disconnect delete - there are a billion threads on that, and none fo them are all that clear. The inner axle tube where the new seal gets pressed in is one of two sizes, either 2.000 or 2.062", it's not machined for a seal and they can be a bastard to get in. I don't like doing it, but I've done it for friends before.

Honestly given the choice my preference is to install a non vac disconnect axle, complete. Especially if you are gearing it, you are probably better off getting an axle to gear, then installing it after gearing it, then (if you can) selling the old axle.

I did one for a friend with a YJ last year - we spent a long ass time trying to find a YJ d30 with 3.55s, no one had one even if they claimed to, eventually I picked up a free set of 3.55 gears from mini=man, he bought a master install kit, and I did the gears in it. While it was all apart we did the vac disconnect and put later XJ big ujoint non disconnect shafts in it, then put the axle back in. If we had been able to find a 3.55 YJ axle it would have been hands down faster and cheaper.

Thanks for the advice. I'll stick to getting a front too then.
And who the f*** would buy that axle. Unless someone want the only Dana 30 that isn't.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, I'm not really sure who would want that dana 29.25. :laugh2:

A vac disconnect will work, don't get me wrong. They just annoy the shit out of me (and if you get the kit that works every time, then you're stuck with seals that aren't shelf stock at local parts shops iirc) and I hate installing them, and hate having to have the rig on jackstands immobile while gearing the axle anyways.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

also that guy who bought my Xmember said his jeep broke down and wants to return all that stuff. I should have known when I saw he was a regular on that page he was going to be trouble.

**** him. He bought it and it's gone. Not your problem he's having second thoughts.

so cant wait to throw ****ing logs on the hood, paybacks a mother ****er Pat.

x2. Can't wait to throw a whole bunch of shit at it.

:D

i was over there at some point, but you never saw me, hahaha

Yeah I was really tired last night writing that up. Really sorry we missed you, didn't think it was going to take us that long at Lowe's but we had to hunt for everything we needed.

cough cough. You forgot about the idiot who pulled petty pranks on you all evening long.

Yeah thanks again for the helping hand. I don't know how we would have done it otherwise

Hahaha yup. Live and learn for sure. Everything is working great now. Thanks again for the help dude!

This is true but I am also only at a 3 inch lift, I don't see the angle being that bad. Wouldn't it be close to stock because stock it was under the pitman arm and the knuckle?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Building Dundys axle is so easy. I already know where things need to be and what mistakes to avoid this time around. Having the tie rod OTK on the stock knuckles gives me a ton more room to work with, I was able to fit the track bar in front of the coil and get equal length TB and drag link. Should be ready for gears and assembly in a couple of days.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone got a set of unloved steelies for an XJ around? I'm looking for a set... prefer no chrome plating, no structural rust (minor rust is ok), and no bends/dents in the lips

I have 4 straight stock XJ steelies with dry rotted 225's on them. $20.

Damnit, now I gotta get rid of tires. Or should I just put them in the woods by my asshole neighbor's house to collect water and breed mosquitoes for him? Decisions, decisions.
