On yesterday's topic I was talking with the two electricians at work and there is a new style auto transfer switch that's around $200, I can get th details if anyone is interested

Tandem breaker also known as a piggy back, basically combined 4 spots into 2 making room for another double pole breaker for the welder. After today his panel is officially full ive used up everything avail.

The town finally got us our real assessed value after the construction.

Ahh, I was thinking about the double pole, not the breakers being combined to make room for it. Those tandems are neat, but I can't even imagine what Square D must want for tandem AFCIs for a QO panel, if they even make them.

There was 3 flat tires, my header panel got backed into and the exhaust mount ripped off the pipe behind the cat on my Jeep. No real major carnage though all things considered

I doubt they make arc faults, I typically like the homeline stuff over the qo, just personal preference, but then again you only need arc faults by code on a new circuit (one the town knows about..), I also don't believe in arc faults and many appliances constantly trip them (ceiling fans, vac cleaner, basically anything with a motor). On my new house I swapped most out for reg breakers after inspection.

Now if square d did make tandem arc faults they'd have to be north of 80 each

Yeah, I only bought the QO because it was the biggest 100 amp panel I could get with the most slots. If I'd bothered to look at breaker prices first I would have gotten a Homeline, HOLY SHIT do I get reamed. GFCI QO breakers are $67 each. :wierd: It's like razors and inkjet printers, box/handle/printer's nearly free and then they have you over a barrel.

I have had zero nuisance trips with my AFCIs and I've got six of them in so far, IIRC - of course it's all 100% new wiring literally from the service entrance cable down at this point, and I don't believe in backstab receptacles/switches (back-inserted screw types are awesome, though) and use guerrilla torque when screwing wire nuts on, so I have absolutely no loose connections anywhere. Even running angle grinders, vacuum cleaner, air compressor, etc I haven't had a single problem with AFCIs. They're expensive, but they're up to modern code and probably a good idea so I use em. It's stuff the town doesn't know about, but I'll be damned if I'm not gonna build it to/above code anyways. Hell, I think I have like 30 feet of 14ga NMC in this entire house, mostly for the networked smoke detectors.

Maybe I'm lucky, maybe the breakers have gotten a lot better. Not sure, there's no way in hell I'd put em in for old circuits or use the first generation of breakers on the market.

pilot bearing. You're going from an internal slave to an external slave as well so be prepared for hydraulic line ****ery or master/slave swapping too.
