THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

A uhaul, the 5x8 one. I thought they were like 1500-2000, trailer was only rated for 1900, wish I'd known that before renting.

It actually pulled pretty nicely. I think most of the horrific grinding noises were my jeep.

Did they load it?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

They loaded it with a forklift, yeah. Picked it up under the ways between the head and the stand using a couple scraps of wood to protect the ways.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If you can tow a bridgeport with one of your shitty jeeps I'm back on the idea of renting a uhaul and towing one with my ranger.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Do it. It worked fine, just don't expect to be a speed demon.

Tow trucks are nice for this but completely unnecessary.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Also for the record, Ross's mill is a good amount lighter than yours. It's shorter and not quite as big of a casting as yours. I think the round rams are sub 2000lbs easy. His has the J-head on the round ram which might be slightly heavier than the usual m head on them? But yours is all around more rigid, but harder to get into a basement.

$50 delivered? :D

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't there some significant slope/play in the ways and the belt in bad shape? R8 or morse collets?

R8.

I used it a while back and ran an indicator across it before I started. Front to back is fine and no slop that I recall, but the center of the table (left to right) is low by .0035. It gradually slopes up to the sides. I'm guessing it was stoned nearly every time it had a new setup on it and over many years that added up. It would be fine for needing a milling machine for basic stuff like bolt patterns in plates or whatever but i wouldn't trust it for anything that has to be better than .005.

It's good for the price that Ross has into it. IIRC he paid $200 back a couple years ago without the 3phase converter... I wouldn't pay a dime more. But really I'd save my $200 and put it towards what you really want

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ugh this is too weekends in a row now that I was supposed to get my jeep back and cant. I guess bobs truck broke down.

this is killing me I need my tools back.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I get my jeep back together for the NEA snow run who wants to tow it there? I'll even let you wheel it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't have a mill, I have a glorified drill press. Sometimes people come over to use it as a mill  I have $500 into it. That's machine, phase converter, hold down kit/collets/end mill kit/etc.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you're a glorified drill press!

I just watched some of that gold rush show. so dumb. first of all they drive over a stump and drain the entire hydraulic system on to the jungle floor. then when they try to fix it the guy asks the other guy for the metric adjustable wrench.
