If there is anything you can do to avoid renting, do it. Once you have rent payments on top of utilities and everything else, it makes it near impossible to save up for a down payment on a house.
Luckily I get along with my parents really well and could deal with the hour commute to work, so I avoided looking for an apartment and stayed with them which allowed me to save for a down payment.
I can understand wanting to get out and not live with parents anymore (believe me, I get it, I never even lived away during college :laugh, but it's worth it once you finally have the money to move out.
I don't know your financial situation or if you get along with your family, nor if there are any first time home buyer incentives in NY, but that's just my $.02.

Ya, it seems like it looks best with the crazy grill hoop on it, and for some reason I've only thought that looks good on a lifted Jeep.

I don't want to run your old bumper. Giant stingers don't look good on stock vehicles so I would have to cut it off, and I'm not thrilled about the idea of cutting the grill, I want to keep this thing clean.
