THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Carmelo, can you thread things with your lathe? I need a 5/8" OD 3/8" ID piece of aluminum tube with about 3/4" of 5/8-18 threads cut on one end, and there's no way I'll get that done properly with a die.

(I'm ordering the tube now, if you can't do it I'll find a way)

I just fixed the power feed so it should. I don't have a threading bit or a thread cutting gauge thingy to grind one myself either.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bought a whole pile of parts yesterday to replace stuff on the Jeep but now it's going to be shitty all weekend. Dumb.

What time did you get to crown at? I was there hut didn't feel like waiting for you to arrive so that I could yell stuff at you.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

6.5 dirtymax

NO BALLS

(I could have gotten you on for under $300 complete a few months ago, they had one at sams with the turbo on it and everything)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I personally wouldn't bother with a 5.3 in a heavy 1-tonned XJ. I'd go straight for a 6.0.

I was thinking about it, but I'm worried the extra power of a 6.0 will kill the aw4.

If your going through all the trouble of swapping the motor. Why not do the trans as well? Plus arent the aw4s supposed to be pretty stout as long as their kept cool?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So swap the AW4 out? Why would you want to go through all the effort of keeping the AW4 and limit yourself on any kind of power upgrades?

I believe the AW4 is stout behind the 4.0, but I find it hard to believe it's stout behind any kind of real V8 power.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

They put a similar transmission to the AW4 behind the 2JZGTE and people put 4 figures through them horsepower wise with a few upgrades, supposedly. I found a rating of 450 ft/lbs for the AW4 online but no idea how accurate that is.

That being said, I'd upgrade...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Key words "similar transmission".

Plenty of people say it's the same transmission and all that, but it's all internet crap talk. Until someone opens one of them up side-by-side with another one, I won't believe a word of it.

Not to mention you could probably just get a chevy transmission for cheap with the 5.3/6.0 and bolt it together for nothing. And then just swap the intput shaft on the STAK.

boys run 5.3's. men run 6.0's.

you can literally use any chevy v8 or 4.3 transmission from like 1950something til 2014.

Talk to child9 about that if you want to know more (I honestly was satisfied by reading his thread, I don't care about the AW4 that much) - he attached the front half of an A340 for a 2JZ to the back half of an AW4. From what I recall of his thread, there's only a few clutches, sprags, and gear assemblies that are somewhat different, and the valve body on the A340 is controlled differently than the one on the AW4 or something.

450ft-lbs is supposedly for a stock AW4, not the toyota version for the 2jz. That's about all I know and I don't put much stock in it since like you said, it's just forum talk.

I completely agree on the chevy trans though... bolts right to the engine, and you can screw with transfer case stuff to bolt them together.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd swap in a 4L80E personally.

I don't know how big a 6L80 is, but a 6 speed would be pretty bitchin.

Or stop being a girl and throw in a NV4500.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just like the idea of keeping the aw4 so that I won't have to touch/modify/change anything from the firewall back. If I go Chevy tram my, probably just be a th400 and a new input for the steak. Then I'll have to redo my entire belly pan and cross members. A L33 (all aluminum 5.3) would be sweet for the weight factor too.
