My Kobalt corded one only lasted about 2-3 years, but I bought it about 5 years ago. Maybe the design has changed? Price was right around $130 I think.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The girlfriend wants a WJ now and is looking at a 2001 with a 4.0 and the 0331 head. Are these like the 5.2/5.9 magnum heads where they're all cracked, and it's a matter of time before the issue shows itself, or is it hit or miss? The WJ has 126k on it with no issues yet and the cooling system has been totally redone.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

magnum heads have cracking issues? shit, first I heard of that.

looking it up online, you're right. goddammit.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Dude, I've only bought those engines, I've never used them in a build or pulled them apart. Oh, and towed with them.

The 5.9 I have has the exhaust manifold bolts horribly rusted to everything anyways, they probably won't survive removal, so I likely should just plan on getting a set of the hughes performance heads that don't have the problem. Welp, so much for my $270 5.9/nv4500/np241 setup lol

I don't think all hope is lost with that combo. I think an okay set of bare iron heads from Hughes is somewhere around $650? I looked a little bit when I was hoarding parts for a built 5.9 for my last ZJ.

So you have no 0331 info for me? I know the interwebs say it's horrible, but is that actually the case?

From what I've read once they overheat they pretty much crack, if the cooling systems been replaced then there was probly some sort of overheating issues

the 0331 on my jeep cracked, a new cast head with valves cost me $450 shipped with a return ship label for a free ship of the core. but it is a redesign of the 0331 cast where there is more metal added between cylinder 3 and 4 when they all crack at

you can do a junkyard head if it is a 0331 "TUPPY" out of i think a '03 or new TJ but then you have to spend a day in a JY pulling it and send it to a shop to get it machined and checked for cracks but i ti will probably cost half as much as a new one

This was a PM thing done by the guy that owns it. He seems pretty OCD about the Jeep and was planning on keeping it long term. He states it's never been overheated.

Any reason an older head won't work? My old ZJ is still at Pat's and I'm sure he wouldn't care if I yank the head off that before it hits the JY. $450 seems very reasonable though, especially since I'm sure I'd be looking at $100+ to get the used head hot tanked and checked for cracks, then whatever else I'd need to replace on it (valve seals?) since that motor had 182k on it.
