THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I always ran ATF in my old XJ and never had issues with it... iirc I have PS fluid in the MJ. It's like, the one thing that isn't horrible on that jeep.

And yeah, when I worked at the quicklube, I definitely remember seeing a lot of Fords that specced ATF. Amusingly, I saw a Ford come in with coolant instead of ATF in the P/S system once  that one whined like a bastard, had the guy saw the wheel back and forth while I sucked it out and filled it back up with ATF. Happy customer, happy boss.

I don't stockpile axles these days, I grab em and then sell them for as much as I can. Haven't lost money on one yet. The only one that hasn't sold when I wanted it to became part of my build plans because I got tired of idiot tire kickers, if I change my mind again I'll try selling it again.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ford calls for ATF in their power steering systems, so I was in the habit of running it seeing as that's all I drove for years, and that's what I had always run in all my Jeeps without issue up until now.

I've never understood why people blow money stockpiling giant axles they don't need:dunno:

Ford PS pump blow. Ive done a few in tuaruses and minivans when I worked in a garage, could hear them whining down the street.

Better then blowing tons of money on small axles that break everytime you take them wheeling :D

I've never had a problem with a Ford PS system, and I've owned a half dozen, and have had another 6 or 8 on the farm.

You're right, I totally should have built a lawn ornament with 60's, that would have been way cooler.Hasta

Broke the cheapest thing in my 60. Im actually still running the same shafts, just trashed the ujoint. If/when I have an issue again, ill warrenty the shafts and step up to chromo joints

I wanna get a bunch of housings and weld them together into a gaint stick figure. Kinda like Sam's shaft person, except bigger!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So since we both seem to have a stack of stupid axles in our yards, what's your stack and what are your plans for each one?

I seem to recall you wanting to put a 14 bolt center section and 2.5 ton rockwell knuckles and shit together into a hybrid front axle.

And something or other about cutting up a perfectly good ford front 60.

What are your plans for the ford center section?

I've got that dumb Dodge kingpin 60 I'm trying to convince a land rover owner friend of mine to buy from me at basically what I paid for it so he can stop blowing up his rear axle and have the option of rear steer in the future. LRs have stupid driver drop front and rear axles, otherwise I'd say we should just hit the yards and find a 60-1SU for him or something. He already called dibs on the next balljoint ford 60 I find, it's just a matter of finding a cheap, bulletproof rearend with appropriate driver offset pumpkin and 8 lug pattern at this point.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have no plans for any of it.

I might buy Colin's GM60 housing/kuckles and put those on my 14b housing. Rockwell is complete and I have no clue what Im doing with it. Once I swap the outers on my Dodge, Im gunna put the Dodge outers on the HP60 housing to make it complete and probably try to sell it.

LRs have stupid driver drop front and rear axles,

Ive always wondered why they did this. I tried looking it up but didnt find much.

Im thinking its so if you clear the front diff you know the rear will clear because it will take a more similar line then a center diff would.

I think it's a combo of this and the same reason old NP200s in M715s were offset - many older transfer case designs had the front and rear outputs exactly in line with each other instead of the rear output behind the input shaft.
