THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

mind blown.

Looks like it'd be super easy to put an air piston on the end of an xrc8 to drive a slug straight in/out if I gave enough of a shit and didn't have a steering box about 3/4" from the end of the winch.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yup.

I already have OBA so it would be cake for me.

Would just mean I don't have to worry about trying to get to the freespool lever on my M8000.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Lost my 18mm Husky impact socket a while ago. I go to see if I can find a way to buy just that one socket... google "18mm impact husky"

First result is me telling someone on NAXJA that Husky sets include 18mm. Damn it, mine don't

If that isn't poetic justice I don't know what is.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bikes finally back home. Was a chilly hour and a half ride

I am 99.9% sure that I own one. Bought it about 5 years ago.

EDIT: I misread what you wrote, nevermind.

Sure you can, they're just labeled 'Kobalt' and are available at Lowes. :D

Seriously, Lowes sells every one of their sockets and adapters individually as well as in the sets. Which also means, if you break it, they just give you another one off the rack instead of having to "mail you one" as per the Husky guarantee. **** that.

Oh, and you can register for 'sockets for life', where if you lose one, you can get it replaced too.

you make a very convincing argument here. I think I know what company I'll get my next sets from...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Harbor freight, tried getting the backing plate nut off an 8.25 and the 13mm socket burst at every of the six points, it was pretty sweet, and the whole 52 piece set was only 7.99, this is my third replacement set

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So you're saying that spending $8 on a socket set instead of buying second shelf husky/kobalt tools meant a fruitless trip to a muddy, slushy junkyard, and you'll have to go back again?

I think I'll spend the $20...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You don't talk about harbor freight like that

I just couldn't fit the ratcheting wrench over it or find any other 13mm, I use hf as a last resort

For the record those look gay compared to the good hf sockets, if you buy the "pro" stuff it's all the same warranty shit you get anywhere else. They were carrying single sockets for awhile too, forget if they still have them. Either way, better than craftsman's stuff nowadays. Not too mention that's a shit ratchet you have in that picture too. I've exploded at least 30 of those lame ratchets, hf ratchet still going strong.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah there's absolutely no way I'd use that ratchet. I'd probably use the sockets though.

Honestly I've not had a single issue with Craftsman/Evolv sockets recently, and I've done some dumb shit to them, like using a giant cheater pipe.

Hell, if it weren't for the fact that I forgot I owned them, I probably wouldn't have bought those and would have just put my Husky socket set on rails and carried those. They work fine. The ratchets blew donkey dong though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ive never had a issue with the crafsman sockets i bouhgt 3-4 years ago, large cheater bars, lots of hammering, u joint installs ect, i vave broken a couple of there fancy rachets though

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Im happy with my craftsman sutff. and Iv also used 4' long cheater bars on the ratchets and have yet to break one.

that being said you have to be careful what craftsman stuff you but alot of it isnt made in the usa anymore. pretty much any thing with a gimmick is made in china. like the universal stuff. I think all the evolve stuff might be china made too.

thats how I justify HF. I can either buy crap chinese stuff at a premium at lowes, sears, HD or buy crap chinese stuff for dirt cheap at HF.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I won't buy the universal stuff because I don't really want to universally round off any type fastener, I want to unscrew them.

Evolv is made in china afaik but I haven't broken any, surprisingly. Including the one I used to put over d30 hub bolts before bashing on them with my largest hammer.

I break craftsman ratchets, probably one every month or two, it's got me thinking about buying some blue point/matco/snap-off/SK ratchets. The only downside IMO is not being able to get a replacement on my way home from the junkyard, I drive right by a sears so that's pretty convenient.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

while were on the topic I just thought I would let anyone that doesent know already that vice grip production have been moved to china aswell. fuging Irwin

Like $8 at the store, I've never broke one. Got one like 4 years ago, used it every day at monro. Bought a second to replace my craftsman in my car toolbox, both still work. At work we went through about a million ratchets everything from those typical chinese ones to MAC, craftsman and other nice ratchets since we find them in cars. All of them broke, until we switched to HF ratchets. You can't really get a breaker bar on them so that helps them live longer. Easily the best $8 i've ever spent. Colin went full HF shit too, even wrenches and shit.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Huh. I might pick up one each of 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 of those ratchets on my next trip. I tried those once and they blew up really fast.

I don't really put cheater bars on my ratchets since I have a pair of Husky breaker bars for that kind of nonsense. I dunno how the hell they die so fast.

Speaking of which, Husky breaker bars kick ass. I had a ten foot pipe over one as a cheater bar and was hauling on it as far up as I could (it was at 45 DEGREES) and torqued a hardened 14mm suspension bolt in half with it - same exact hardware as the LCAs and leafs on an XJ. Didn't even come close to breaking. The bolt broke with a pretty loud bang and I thought I broke the socket/breaker bar until I checked.
