THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Damn silly Chysler and their silly premium infinity sound systems in my Dodge. I got some new Alpine speakers for the front doors since the PS one is fubar. They run a funky 4wire setup with an amp mounted on the speaker. Going thru the Cummins forums, you cant really bypass it without just running new wires. I think I'm just gunna wait until I buy a new deck and just rewire the entire setup to get rid of the factory stuff.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

what wall thickness box tube did most of you guys use for your 2x6 rockers and or X-members? is .120 enough? or sould I look for something closer to .25?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I bought 1/4 for mine, I think Sam did too, and I'm welding 1/4 into a friends truck atm.

3/16 would probably work, but I can dent/bend a 6" span of 3/16 easily with a hammer, nevermind dropping a jeep on top of it. And the price/weight differences were minimal enough I decided it wasn't worth the downsides.

edit: 3/16 to 1/4 weight increase is 2.8 lbs per foot. IIRC you need about 10 feet to do an XJ, so you only save around 28lbs.

Everyone runs .25" for everything

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

For a crossmember I was thinking of running .375 (3/8ths for the noobs)
Waist of money?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, thickness won't really improve things much on a crossmember, vertical web height will do way more. I'd rather run 1/8 with a 2" tall vertical face than 3/8 with a 1" tall vertical face, though I'm not sure math will back me up on that.

For my crossmember I used extra 2x6 1/4 wall I had lying around, 1/4 plate for the mounting tabs at each end, 1/8 plate for the actual bushing mounting surface (inset into it to get the right mount height relative to the body without the bolt heads coming through the bottom and getting ****ed up on rocks) then used either 1 or 1.25 inch poop pipe around each bolt inset so that the crossmember won't fill with mud and water and rust out.

I haven't truly tested it yet, but just driving home from my buddy's shop after building it I could tell it stiffened things up significantly, the doors don't squeak on the seals anymore, the shifter doesn't wobble as much when I drop the clutch, and in general the truck feels like one solid piece again instead of the rotted out, stress cracked floppy pile of sheetmetal it actually is.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm running 3/16 for my bumpers crossmember and rockers and have yet to dent any of them, frt bumper has lasted 2 jeeps and get smashed into shit all the time

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone else get a chuckle out of the kid trying to sell the super 35, I want the stupid front axle

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

is he still trying? he talked shit about an 8.8 on a friends facebook photo discussion thread "lol an 8.8 is just a d35 with a bigger ring gear" so both of us are like "wtf you are an idiot" and I said I thought he was of the opinion that d35s are worth 1200 bucks, he deleted and blocked both of us.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

He reports it every night around 1030, not one comment since he got butthirt the first time

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I ran 3/16" on my XJ, never dented it. I've seen people run 1/8", then skin the outer edge that will see the most abuse with 1/8" angle iron to save weight. Not sure exactly how much weight you save, but on your shitbox it's probably not worth it. I'd say go for whatever you can get easier/cheaper, and cut them up as high as you can, the extra work is worth it.

Why is it that CL people think they should get a really good deal because they might have to travel far to buy what I have? If I have what you want, then drive and get it. You obviously can't find it where you are. I should just lower my price because you have to drive some distance. Name one store that does that. Incredible sometimes the people I deal with. It does make me laugh though when some of them get butt hurt when I say No or they tell me about some other deal they can get and I tell then to go buy it. Ok done rant. Carry on people.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Saving 30lbs here and there can be huge, the fact is the heavier your rig is the shittier it will wheel

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So say I built the cross member then I wanted to do Long arms I built on it .25 would be enough?
