THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I had that happen to me once on my old HP44.

But it was what Sam said. I had munched the little nipple during installation or maintenance.

I found it while replacing balljoints. Luckily it hadn't loosened up much at that point.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You werent running those seals? Any moisture in there too?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I usually torqued the inner nut to 50 ft lbs installed the lock ring then cranked down on the outer one. It wasnt a common problem on the 7464632784654727847zu3 trucks with dana 44s and 10 bolts factory. I think the fact that most offroaders are hack, dont use torque specs, or just overlook the tiny little nipple is why it seems to be a "common problem".

the seals that go on the outside of the spindle? no, those werent in yet. and yes, there was moisture in them. i'm sure the water/mud mix + freeze and thaw the night before didn't help any and more than likely was the cause. regardless, i'm not taking the chance again. i have those seals and they will be going in as well and i'll be changing the spindle bearings too.

Agreed.

It was my first time dealing with a hub/spindle setup and I got hasty with the whole install.

Completely my fault. Nothing wrong with the design.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

meh. i like the peace of mind the spindle locks get me. the bearing was preloaded correctly, ring installed correctly, blah blah.

not going to rocktoberfest. saving $$ and wanted to go up to my friend's cabin instead last weekend. me and the lady are thinking about moving into the apartment in the basement of her parent's house. its a real nice size, and would only cost us 300 a month to live there. plus, i'll gain a 2 car garage to store my tools (her mom's new accord and her dad's 66 mustang already occupy the parking spots in it), giant boat shed for more crap and a perfect driveway wrenching space where i can lay up my jeep.

Does anyone have a skateboard helmet that they don't need? I need one for my halloween costume.

that would be your problem. even with those seals, moisture found its way in unless i used about a tub of grease inside the spindle and around that seal.. and even then i had to take it all apart every now and again and clean it up. luckily i broke my shit a lot so i had to take it all apart anyway lol.

thats cheap as ****.

There are a lot of variables in life, but my 2 year plan is to keep living where I am now, its cheap, I have wrenching space, and I get fed. Once Deanna is done with grad school then its time to move out and on with life.

Yea. I'm learning the hard way these bearings need a bit more checking than a stock sealed piece. That's my own fault though. And yea, it's super cheap. With both of us working long hours now it's hard to get home, do what we need to do, then head out and see each other. 150 a month each is dumb cheap.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

im hoping my 60 shit seals up better than my 44 shit. its the same basic design, everything is just bigger.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

people in that f-book trade group sure are cheap
can't speak for anyone else, but yes I am
