THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So in other news.

My FOA's have been pretty good to me, but just from two years of (ab)use on a heavy rig, I've been anticipating needing to buy/repair at least:

2 x 12" shock shafts
2 lower shock eyes
4 sealhead assemblies (or at least seals to rebuild them, which is a pain in the ass)
2 IFP rebuilds
1 top cap seal
1 shraeder valve
2 x 14" shock shafts, or a way to internally limit my 16's by 2"
8 new shim sets
4 pistons (upgraded to the newer style, these would probably be free for me)
All associated seals/o-rings/etc

Then the shock oil, nitrogen, and time etc. to make all that happen. And hope it's all good.

I have an opportunity to get dealer cost on going with all Fox stuff for the new rig. Ordered to my specs, just bolt 'em up and go. It'd end up being 14's instead of 12's for the front, 14's instead of 16's for the rear (modified class limits at 14" shock travel, which is why I'd have to rework my 16's), 2.5" and remote reservoir all around, and probably a set of 4 2" airbumps. I'm not doing bypasses but I'll be building in space to add them later if things go that way.

No I don't know yet what 'dealer cost' is. But this is pretty tempting.

edit: I should also add that after working on every brand of shock with Wayne during those tuning days, his personal favorite is Fox, and after working on them I understand why.

Shut up and get the foxes. 2.0 or 2.5?

2.5" of course.

2.0 might as well be white bodies for the shit this thing is gonna see.

There's also a very small part of me that dislikes the idea of putting beat-up used shocks on a rig where everything else is brand new and shiny. Yeah I know, it'd still work just fine, and I spent the last few years driving a truck without a straight line on it.

Just feels like the Fox's are the better way to go here.

Ok, just checking :-D

You of all people know how important suspension is, this rig is gonna be fast bc of what you're doing different than everyone else in mod stock, don't cheap out on the part that'll make this thing serious. Go fox, sell the dumb foas to Colin

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

$3.52/ft for 1.75 x .120 DOM, $2.97/ft for 1.5 x .120 DOM, $5.18/ft for 1.5" x 3" x .188 rectangle. I just gotta go pick it up about an hour away.

Not too bad.

I laughed at the first comment about the US/Mexico boarder.
Speaking of this, I stopped in to my local shop on Tuesday killing some time and they had your new toy.
Thing is just tiny in my hand.
Neat though.

Prices have come down a bit over the year, but still not back to were they were 3 years ago.

scrap supposedly just took a dive a couple weeks ago. raw steel should follow suit soon.

Damn that sucks. I have more shit to get rid of soon.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm guessing you're going to build your own frame now.

Saw that modified KOH thread.

Meh. Honestly I really don't want to. I dunno what benefit it'd really give me, and it's certainly a ton more work/time/cost.

Straightening the rails like I've got in mind is easy...just cut a little V out of the top/bottom of the C-channel where the bend is, use a comealong at the end of the rails, weld it back up. Probably weld a temporary brace across where the bend is and just do one side at a time.

I wouldn't want to do .120 wall box tube 'cuz it sucks for welding anything directly to it. I've seen all kinds of link mounts/cage tie-in points/etc rip off of .120 wall YJ frames. So you end up having to plate a larger area to make up for it...and now I'm back to building an XJ again.

The factory C-channel is 3/16" mostly, 1/4" in places. I'm comfortable welding to that and not having to plate it. If I want to bolt something to it I just drill a hole and it's done, no welding sleeves thru to tighten bolts against. I can run lines/wires in the C behind a lot of stuff and keep them out of the way and protected. If I want it boxed in places, for whatever reason, that's easy too.

I know it's not as rigid as a fully boxed frame...but with the cage, crossmembers, rockers, etc, how much does the 'frame' itself really do?

I dunno. Just seems like the time/money is better spent elsewhere.

The 1.5" x 3" .188 is for rockers, tie-ins from the rockers to the frame, and crossmembers.

Yep. I don't really need anything more than that, and if I ever move/travel somewhere that allows concealed carry, all the more better. Fits my hand extremely comfortably, way better than a 1911ish frame.

6 years ago I paid $3.05/ft but I had to drive 3 hours each way to get it. $3.52/ft for a 3rd of the travel distance with fuel prices way higher seems about even if not better.

That's with ~80' of the 1.75, ~80' of the 1.5, and ~24' of the rectangle.
