shrinking DBs? really, how long does that take? what kind of tables are they even modifying? I've been doing that shit for the past month.. I pull tables off of SQL modify tables, and rerun jobs with my eyes closed.

Outlook Exchange...and I have no idea, but for comparison sake my email folder on the server is 7.5 GB, and I've been here 6 years. There's hundreds of people on the server, most of who have been here longer than I have.

I don't think it's SQL...and yes, I know, I work in it every day too. :)

Last time they messed with the mail server for my job, I lost all the emails that I had in my personal files. And mysteriously, they couldn't find them... EVER! You might want to burn and info you have on the server to disc. That way, in case they FUBAR the system, you'll still have it all.

jesus christ IT doesnt archive your emails???? and all the shit i'm doing i should be paid a lot more. XXXXing hate it here. all you XXXXs who like their jobs can eat my shit.

I'll pass. But thanks for the offer. I really don't like my job anyways... it's just I pretty much get paid to do nothing....

We just migrated to a new Exchange server...we changed ownership last May but kept the IT lease from our old parent company for another year to get everything sorted out. They established the new server in Germany two weeks ago and it took about between now and then for everyone's stuff to be completely migrated...I had some big gaps of missing emails until about 3 days ago (almost 20,000 messages in my Inbox and roughly half that in the Sent folder).

If I had to guess, the archiving is what's happening next.

Sure, but first, you must fill out the proper form in triplicate, wait in two different lines for them to tell you your sack isn't properly registered and to come back at a later time to repeat the process.

I've had 1 phone call since email went down at 11:30...otherwise it's been 100% dead.

Pleased to report that after an hour-long inspection process, there are no holes in my eyelids.
