THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So maybe I'm missing something but it always seems like there are a bunch of KOH competitors that slap buggies together at the absolute last second.

Seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

IDK, probably have it done like a month or two in advance at least and spend that time running it and finding all the weak links.

rocks wont break KOH rigs, the only way youll break on the hammers (from what my limited knowledge has seen/realized) unless youre being an idiot. either by running 37s locked on a D44 with stock axles and a SBC, or by leaving your foot planted trying to climb something and you roll 3 times.

the desert breaks your shit. every time. so you can really test your weak links unless you can sustain 80+ mph for an extended period off road.

and from the EMC, it seems like all the dudes running strokers were like "OK WE GOT IT RUNNING FOR 5 MINUTES ITS GOOD TO GO!" then go race with it and it explodes and they cant figure it out. with the right gearing, a stock 4.0 can hold speed in the desert. sure, you wont be the fastest guy out there but we ALL know how the 4.0s DGAF about being revved the hell out. i've had my old jeep at 100+ (albeit on road, but hey, it was almost 5k rpms) for 10 minutes at a time driving out west. no issue whatsoever.

I kinda tuned out from all the KOH stuff a while ago.

I'll probably pay more attention when someone does something innovative for it, instead of just slapping an LS motor into the same chassis everyone else is using with a different name on it.

I'm glad I went in '09 and '10 before it got this big.

So what actually breaks?

The most I've read are transmission issues and/or fuel issues.

i havent paid much attention to it the last two years either, for the same reason chris said. i've been keeping up on the EMC though. i havent looked into final results yet, but there were guys running VERY basic old toyota pickups in it. podium was Currie's XJ, a V8 ZJ, then a sammi. A SAMURAI. that alone should tell you KISS.

i dont really know what breaks on the real KOH rigs... probably things related to havingtoo much horsepower. people are talking about hitting 140-150 on the lakebed this year. its all about dudes with money now, kinda sucks. even robby gordon is running it.

when we get rich we will shit out winning koh rigs.

with stock speedo gears mine would cut out at about 3800 rpms

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i had a corrected speedo gear and hit fuel cut and was going faster than that cobalt in texas. i really dont want to know how fast that was.

they collectively had 8 teeth

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want to show up at KOH in my MJ and fly by you with my big block and "off the shelf" shocks.

:D

do it. i'm jussayin that everyone overbuilds. i did. my buddy has a 2009 JK rubi, he bought a AEV lift and got 35s and his jeep is not only capable, its comfortable, and driveable every day. and it was "built" in a weekend. i think im gonna write a letter to jeep. essentially saying "give me new JK rubicon with some mopar parts and 35s. i race in KOH and finish when silly tube buggies break. then you make badass commercial and use it in a crazy advertising campaign. sincerely, adam."

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

adams shocks are just lame stock 9100s. he just got custom length and a bigger resi for sig mods.

THEY ARENT EVEN TRIPLE BYPASS= JUNK

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

going fast has a wicked lot more to do with the amount of balls you have anyway.

i remember doing stupider things with white bodies and cheap edelbrocks than people
who had 2.0 remote resis did.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

not to say fancy shocks dont have thier place, but you need some nut to be able to use them to thier potential
