here's my front 44 story (fiasco) for those who dont really know the whole to do on why im running 1-ton ford outers.
bought a 44/60 not-yet-finished combo from trevor, geared to 5.13, with brackets etc. the 44 complete with fresh outers (more on that later). the 60 was a drum brake ISU converted to disc with 35 spline chromo shafts and a lock right and just needed a yoke/perches and calipers. basically, the axles were picked up by trevor for his XJ, he changed his mind, and i bought the stuff for what he did+labor that was going into the gear install for the 44.
so i take the 44 and bring it over to my buddy's place so he can slap a truss and whatever on it. he does it like 2 weeks later (this is way before im ready to build) and then i bring it over to the guy who trevor already paid to gear the axle. when i drop it off, he says he has the outers and i needed the knuckles so i can ship one off to get decked and milled flat for high steer. he cant find them. but he has the outers. so whatever, i get knuckles from tim. i get the knuckles back, call the guy and want the outers. he has "no idea" where they are and says i already took them when i dropped off the axle. i flip out. he HAD THEM when i dropped the axle off a few weeks ago, i didnt take them bc i was originally gonna drop the knuckles off and have him assemble it all bc thats what he was PAID FOR originally. a few of my buddies call him, he says trevor took all the outers a year ago when he dropped the axle off, which is BS.
so i bought all new stuff so i could get it rolling asap. and now i have a REALLY, REALLY expensive front 44. and now i'm not even driving it. it kind of blows. i'm this far in, i'm cutting my losses with what happened.
