Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

bullshit 5 mph drive into work. Normally i have a 25 minute commute took me 50 minutes.
That 1" overnight and a possible 1-2" more today was off. We're already at almost 5" and its coming down good.
Better turn to rain soon and get this crap off my brush piles I need to move this weekend. Gonna be COLD! Sunday is supposed to be in low single digits and windy. :shiver:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It rained last night here.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So here's my fun adventure last night:

Cummins place was closed by the time I got to it (which was *not* when they said they closed :| ) so I finagled a new bolt into the V-band clamp and stuffed everything back together.

Good news is the awful noise is gone and everything is much quieter.

Bad news is I figured out why they put a turbo on these trucks...because they don't XXXXing get out of their own way with purely natural aspiration.

At least I don't have to worry about it getting worse now...

diesels without turbos are wicked gay

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I am getting ideas now. I bet an aw4 pan would make a good brownie pan, and the dipstick could be used to check if they are done from outside the oven

The band clamp is not the wastegate, it's what keeps the two halves of the turbo together, and allows you to clock/rotate it. If it came loose you could have roasted the bearings inside by putting weird side loads on them. When you check the impeller play, check in and out as well as up and down, spin it and see how it feels too. This is what it looks like inside(roughly)

If it was like that for long, and the weight of the turbo pulled on that shaft while the clamp was loose, you're looking at a new turbo. What engine is it, the 5.9 or 6.7?

5.9, 2005. The 610 one.

And the bearings aren't really the problem...that whole forward half houses the bearing assembly, with the exhaust impeller sticking out the back. But the noise I was hearing was the exhaust impeller eating itself against the inside of the rear housing because it wasn't aligned anymore.

I didn't actually check the impeller itself yet, but seeing as I almost got flattened by a semi while trying to merge onto the highway this morning, pretty sure something's XXXXed in there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I can just get this for ~$300, which is nice, but also assumes that nothing else on the turbo is XXXXed up.

I'd probably rather just spend the extra money and not worry about it.

I wish this was snow.

And I wish Sam's friend didn't bitch out when I went and tried to buy the Jeep.

Why? At this point in the season it is just going to be a mess.
No snowmobiling, no ice-fishing, no cross-country skiing, no snowshoeing, etc this year. It's too late unless we get endless snowfall and temps in the single digits or teens for days.

I also wish this was snow. I got a nice reminder that this pair of shoes has a hole in the sole during the walk through the parking lot this morning

and no Jeep? what happened?

you're kidding me. that sucks.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Quick question before I order parts: When doing the AX-15 internal to external slave swap, does the later-year master cylinder bolt right up to the firewall and hook up to the clutch pedal OK? Or was the clutch pedal assembly different on later years?

I was thinking I would just order the pre-bled 1999 master/slave/hydraulic line set but I just wanted to make sure that would bolt into my jeep before I spend $100+ on it...
