THe NAC Lots-O-Circle-Jerk Thread
when did this become "the vetteboy and moparmaniac circle jerk thread"?
Only thing I can think of is there must be a shortage of trucks on craigslist, and everyone is currently satisfied with the boots they're wearing.
Most of them have automatics though, and they mount the shifter in some weird location.
:thumbup:I'm gonna stop being gay and work on my Jeep tomorrow
The *only* time something like that makes sense is if you have to do it to meet a class requirement. Like Jeepspeed. They have to use the factory mounting points, so if you're gonna race Jeepspeed, you have to reinforce what's there.
Otherwise...you'd be WAY ahead of the game in both time, money, and functionality if you don't try to work around shitty OEM stuff and instead just build something that works. You're already planning on doing an engine cage, right?
Until you get to that point, just run the plain ol' factory shock mount with a top adapter, maybe reinforce the coil bucket a little, and FIRI. I'd place good money that you're not gonna XXXX that up over your time wheeling this truck. It took me two and a half years of frequent wheeling and a year of racing before any of the factory stuff up there started tweaking.
When and if it does, just cut all that shit out, tie your engine cage into everything else, and build a few new mounts.
This is probably less work than that goofy shock mount thing.
Just sayin'.
Remember what I was saying about thinking back on all the stuff that pissed me off or XXXXed me over when I was building my XJ?
Part of that is how much of that work was time & money wasted on accomodating OEM limitations instead of removing them. It really took less than 20 minutes to cut all that inner fender garbage out, and made everything else SO much easier to build the way I wanted to.
my new boots rock, or at least the soles aren't falling off, I give em a year before they explodeOnly thing I can think of is there must be a shortage of trucks on craigslist, and everyone is currently satisfied with the boots they're wearing.
I feel like I have been saying this about what's left of my frame... :stirpot:
That and Colin's 'plating a stock frame on a couple planes is just as good as what you are considering and so much easier' ending up with the roof popping in and out as he flexes have pretty much made up my mind.
WHATEVERRRRRRRR:laugh: You would leave out words from my post.
You also need a cage, which I didn't have when that was happening.
WHATEVERRRRRRRR
I'd be lying if I said I hadn't considered adding a basic cage to my cab at the same time. I wheel too stupid to not consider it. And my floor will be out. I don't have a bender though![]()
wait, you want me to build MORE stuff not less? :spin1:So build a bender? Wasn't very hard.

I'm surprised you haven't seen this... I must have posted it five million times. I pretty much wrecked what was left of my frame at rocktoberfest and my floor is gone anyways so it's not in the way, which leaves me little reason to (1) keep the MJ OR (2) keep the frame. I'm planning a 100% 1/4" wall box tube frame for it right now. My estimate of weight is ~470lbs for the frame, and I think I can cut 150-200 out by removing the old frame in the process. Might go with 3/16" wall instead, just going from a 10ga U-channel with an 18ga floor spotwelded across the top 1/2" out from the walls of the channel to a fully boxed and resistance welded tube frame should make it way more than strong enough. Yes, I will be fish plating all butt welds and gusseting the shit out of it.What are you wanting to do, exactly?
