THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ev at this point im ready to light it on fire, its SO NICE to be able to wheel and break, or not have to wrench in the dark on a weekday to get to work in the morning. $120 a month is worth the piece of mind, and its triple the gas mileage.

Maybe I like wrenching more than you then. I don't mind spending a weeknight here and there fixing something if it's saving me money.

What the hell mileage are you getting with your XJ? How far do you drive to work?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You hashed it out over two weekends, it's not even finished yet, and you're already pissed at it?

Remind me not to be around when you actually wheel the damn thing.

You wanna talk about a money pit, look at leasing. At least when you buy something for the jeep, it's actually yours.

I HATE debt.

This December I will be 100% debt free. No student loans, car payments, credit card debt, anything. Every penny I save after that will be put in a fund to start saving for a house.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

And a lease costs $120 a month? With how much down, and what kinda mandatory insurance coverage (which I'm sure is gonna be not-so-cheap given your current situation)?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

16 miles, stop and go. i average ~12mpg every week. my dad suggested and supports the lease option, i brought up the idea of getting another cherokee or an older honda but he didnt agree with it, though i would get another xj. and wrenching a weeknight or so? dude its been almost every XXXXing day since i starting building the thing. yes, maybe one day down the road this thing will be 100% driveable, but its not right now. i'm gonna go to my dad's tonight and figure everything out.

yup. what would happen if i wheeled it and broke it and had nothing? cant go from having a jeep and a DD to just having one car again. and yea, i know about the lease deal, its basically a glorified rental.

idk, i didnt look into anything yet. a civic/fiesta/hyundai is like $130/month with like 1500 down, the cars are $13000. and nothing is on my record as of yet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That's barely even break-even math buddy, if not a losing proposition.

At $120/month that's gotta be a down payment of at least $2-3k. Put half that down payment into actually finishing the jeep, the other half into a $1k beater, and still owe nothing. You're not gonna be able to carry a liability-only policy with a leased car and I'm sure they have minimum coverage levels you have to meet for collision.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

idk anymore i need to be able to get in and drive something and not have to XXXXing worry about it. the jeep is still a long shot away from that. my dad will help me out but not if i get some beater mobile. i wish i never got into this project, it was too much too soon and now im in a shit situation.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just saw a pic of my ex on facebook. She put on a few lbs over the summer.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you are going to have to fix whats wrong with the cherokee regardless of wether you daily drive it or not.

best to work the bugs out right now.

what went wrong with it so far? needed a master and a ball joint? one thing that was overlooked and one freak occurence.

Are you serious? It hasn't been close to almost every day. Maybe recently it has. If it HAS been, then you work 100x slower than me, and I work SLOW just ask Adam.

How hard do you plan on beating the XXXXing thing? I had NO problem backing down from trails when I wheeled mine everyday if it was extreme because I KNEW I had to use it to get to work the next day and DIDN'T want the cost/hassle of a DD on top of it.

Also, yours will be plenty bulletproof for it's size. What the hell is going to break on it that wouldn't just go out ordinarily? Window regulators? Crank sensors? If you break a driveshaft OH NOES I HAVE TO UNDO 8 BOLTS???

I think you're being a wicked vagina. It's ok to admit you want a vehicle with no maintenance as a daily driver and are willing to bend over for it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If you are going to be putting in the range of $3k down for a lease down payment I would say to just get a small loan and buy something decent for $5-8k.

In the end you will own the car and you won't have to worry about those mileage restrictions. Put $2-3k down and take a $5k loan and your payments will probably still be below $150 per month and you will own the car once it's paid off... unless you are heartset on leasing a new vehicle, then ignore this.

I do agree that it is nice to not rely on the Jeep as a DD, having something else to drive that is reliable/nice is great... I would just prefer to buy over leasing (though a lease isn't even an option for me with the miles I put on my car)

I could use one of those. I'm not exactly the king of maintenance.

the h blocks on the calipers are still loosening up, even with red loctite on the bolts... which already caused me to be late to work once bc i lost a caliper on the front. front end is pretty damn ridic right now, who knows what that knuckle is gonna look like when i pull the ball joint out. what if i need a TRE or ball joint and i cant get the part til tuesday? it needs the shocks to be put in bc im gonna wreck the $750 leafs i'm running... something i cant get to bc i'm chasing other problems. also, the front end was rushed and i really need to go over everything again.. i skipped a spacer on a bracket, two bolts need to be replaced with longer ones so the thread engagement is better. i'm running like 5 different size lug nuts. i still need to shorten a front DS and fix one of the front lower shock mounts up front.. thats not keeping me from driving it but theyre still issues.

yes, theyre freak occurances but i cant be driving home from a buddy's house at 1130 on a wednesday and have something freak happen again and i cant get to work.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I used to DD my Nova. I should really fix that thing again soon, maybe next spring. Im also gunna buy a bike next spring too.

dude i drove and beat on my old jeep for 4 years as a DD... i XXXXing drove it across the country. but i was in college, i could leave it undriveable for a couple days.. i also had 4 years to work EVERY kink out of the thing.

and yes, maintenence free DD and i'm willing to pay for it. done.

i'm not. something thats not boring to drive and has 3 pedals and gets good mpg, i'm fine with that.

Buy the bike in the winter when the prices are lower.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

what time to i have to be at KOUJ and what do i need to bring?
time: whenever you aren't hungover anymore
bring: jeep, yourself, spare parts you might need, leave your sanity at home

agreed. I like that one

hey, so when I get this broken stud out and replace it, yada yada, do I need to buy another intake gasket even though this one has only been on there for 2 days? I'd hate to waste this one, but if it isn't going to seal right it's worth the $15 to get another new one. What say you smart people?
what kind of gasket?
paper/cardboard/graphite/cork/whatever - don't
steel and silicone, or plastic and silicone - FIRI

If I could get my MJ to pass inspection I would have NO problem driving that thing everyday.

I drove my old XJ with a very similar setup to yours (minus cage) with NO problems. Yes it needed stuff done here and there, but I still did it and LOVED driving it.
srsly.

You know what's funny? I jokingly told my boss that the 5 ton would have been more economical to drive to NYC than the Amtrak we took a few times before I had fixed the MJ enough to trust it, and before my friend had gotten his license back. He told me he wasn't surprised, and that he thought I had driven it down during the hurricane with the diesel for the generator in the back. Now I hope we get another hurricane.

I have enough to be debt free right now, but the cash in my account has to go towards the house not the student loans. XXXX debt.

16 miles? Buy a bike if all else fails. You'll be ripped for the ladies and it costs like 200 bucks.

If not, I have a red 98 XJ you can borrow. It needs a heater core (parts come with it), maybe a new motor (I have one, just haven't installed it), and carpet/exhaust (I have the carpet, don't have the exhaust.) Oh and a wiring harness for the rear hatch needs to be swapped in, it's sitting on the passenger seat.

Install as many of the parts as you feel like and put gas in it and it's yours for as long as you need it.
