Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

we have a 94 chevy 1500 in the shop today.

landscaping company thought it was a steal.

Ive seen nicer trucks get scrapped.

They are putting around $2500-$3000 into it to get it to barely pass inspection.

and everything else on it is a ticking time bomb.

I don't think I would ever try and haul 3/4 ton of stuff in a comanche. That is not logical.

I've done it twice, all the way to Pennsylvania and back. Did fine. It did come close to overheating on a certain long hill on i84 coming back from NACFest '10, the same one that killed my 5 ton and right on the other side of the ridge from the one that started the death of my '96, but that was mostly because it only had 1/3 of the fins left in the radiator and it was 90+ degrees out.

In fact it did a hell of a lot better than my XJ with 500lbs in it... and had more miles, more wear, more abuse, and less oil in it :wierd:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I said logical Ken. That excludes you...

:D
I am going to charge you '99 XJ parts for making fun of me :moon:

kidding, yeah, I figured as much. Has an official cargo capacity of 1400lbs though, if it was a metric ton edition it'd be 2205lbs! Apparently the leaf springs didn't know that though because they sagged pretty bad by the time I swapped them out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

im thinkin about growing up just a little bit and getting a practical car.

i like the gm supercharged 3.8 sedans from around 98-03 (something like that) quick, comfy, roomy, pretty inexpensive and easy to work on, 18 city 28 highway

and i can find them all day long for around 2 to 3 grand. some a little less some a little more.

and ive been reading up on em and some people are building them to run 12's in the 1/4 mile on fairly stock motors with the stock supercharger. sounds like a fun sleeper

Aside from the boring transmission, your logic seems good but I'll be shocked if you ever see 28 mpg out of it.

Exactly which model are you talking about?

The hardest part about buying a car, for me, is narrowing down to which models you are willing to own. I would consider a Suby too, if I were you. Doesn't have to be a WRX but even an old Impreza wagon still does really well.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

SOUNDS GAY

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You definitely took a shortcut from "going to be a grownup and get a practical car that gets ok gas mileage" right to "I'm going to build it like everything else and make it into another fun vehicle that gets not ok gas mileage" I'll give you that :laugh2:

I gave up on practical vehicles and not modding them a long time ago, the temptation is too great. If I was going to get a responsible vehicle and not mod it, it would have be something I hated, and I don't want to drive a vehicle I hate.

I too have been having this thought pop into my head recently since I've started working. I've (Gasp) been thinking the Briarwood might not be too practical for that much longer...

Anthony, I saw a car like yours today driving in front of me, except it had a turbo. It was definitely modified.

Uh, what?

Mine has a turbo. And is modded. But it's in the parking lot outside and was not stolen.

the regal gs
bonneville sse
i think some malibus came with it
i know grand prix had them but those are fugly

i know only auto trannies are available which is gay though. but they arent terrible behind (to the side of?) that motor.

im just not a huge fan of vws and subarus in general. ive driven them and worked on them and they just have never done it for me. both seem to turn into real pieces of shit as they age too. but maybe thats just my limited experience with them.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Arrrg! :soapbox:
This darn Verizon strike is frustrating. Long story short Verizon owns and installs the phone poles in my area. I need a Verizon Engineer to come out and survey the site for the poll location and to get it installed. Not only have I been told by Verizon themselves this take ~6 months on "normal schedule", but I can't even place a work order for it until the strike is over. Then due to the strike and the backlog from it it'll take longer for the work order to even be started.

Well you don't have a super cool "turbo" logo under your hatch handle then.

And this one was dark gray, and had a lizard or gecko sticker on the rear window.
