THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm sorry, but I still think those SHO's are pieces of crap, and look like ass.

Good thing I'm not interested in the car itself whatsoever. :roll:

I'll add that whoever designed the shift linkage for the 5-speed needs to be punched in the dick. I know mine's probably pretty worn out, but it still sucks.

Sam, I looked, Grand Junction is also 6 hours closer than vegas. For $225 per day, we could rent an "extreme rubicon" in Moab.

* Lockers, Front and Rear - It's Moab! Never underestimate any trail!
* 35x12:50 Mud terrain Tires
* 4 Inch Suspension Lift
* 5.13 Superior Gears, and Superior
Chrome-Moly Axle Shafts
* Automatic Transmission - for easier backcountry maneuvering
* Air Conditioner - total summer comfort!
* Tube Doors and Trail Protection
* Accommodates 4 People

Or for $40 less,
* Lockers, Front and Rear - It's Moab! Never underestimate any trail!
* 2.5 Inch Suspension lift Incredible clearance.
* Automatic Transmission - for easier backcountry maneuvering
* Air Conditioner - total summer comfort!
* Safari Top/Hard Top
* 32 X 11:50 Mud Terrain Tires - so you can go where other Jeeps can't.
* Accomodates 4 People

There are a few trail restrictions unfortunately, and it says to rent you need to be 25 years old. I don't give a crap what that says, I'm still going to drive it anyway if we go.

This came up over the weekend with the LI offroad club, One of the guys rented a rubi with the 2.5" lift on 32s and said it walked all the trails you were allowed on. He said none of them were difficult and if you ran other trails and got caught it was a $1000 fine. He then said if he ever goes back it will be with his own rig.

My friend would agree with you. He drove mine a few times and he could never find 3rd gear. I think it was partly caused by an inept user but also a funky linkage.

Ya I know you only want it for the engine. I was saying that to Anthony because I know he defended the SHO before, a couple of months ago here:

Just because a POS car has a decent engine in it, doesn't make it any less of a steaming pile of poo. And the SHO is one of those.

I hate it in all the ricer communities when they talk about how the engine in a car, or the handling characteristics. I don't care if it can take a corner, it looks like a pile of shit, and I would never want to drive it.
That engine is beyond decent. It's practically a work of art. Ford originally planned for the engine to redline at 10k, make 300 hp, and go in a Mustang. Ford then decided that no one would want a v6 mustang, so they turned it sideways and shoved it into the Taurus.

The thing is... SHO's can't take corners. It was comfortable, sounded awesome, and was pretty quick (but still not fast) in a straight line. In my opinion, the SHO is the best looking Taurus ever made. But it's still a Taurus.

For the most part, I don't really care about looks. If I like how it drives I can get past the looks.

Don't worry, I never especially want to drive a SHO either.

I just want to put its guts to a better use.

I cannot get 4th in either of my friends '97 Legacies. They both cut the shifter down and one has a short throw. When I drive them I just race the shit out of them in 3nd and go to 5th. I pretend like I meant to do it so I don't look dumb. :D

35s on a locked LP 30 and a heavy foot.... the guy that had the blue yj on tons last trip blew afront u joint in the same spot..

wtf? u have a pic of this spot? im trying to figure out where on yellow jacket this can happen lol

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Taurus' are gay as hell, but I honestly think the newer SHO's (96+) look cool. I'd get one for a DD if I didn't read about so many problems. And if the interior wasn't designed to be a fawking circle.

Don't forget that the older v6 ones are faster ;)

Don't matter 1 bit, I wouldn't feel as much like a tool driving it compared to the old one.

I used to drive a '99 taurus station wagon. It wasn't too bad to drive, and looked 1 million times better than the older ones. But I knew it was a taurus, and most definitely didn't think it was the coolest vehicle out there, or that I was part of some small elect who drove a sweet car no one respected.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

0-60 in the mid 6's, and the kid made it a point to tell me that it'll do 144 MPH. :laugh:

I've never heard a clutch like the one in this car. With the pedal out it (sometimes) sounds like a cement mixer. Sometimes it's locked up solid, to the point where if you let off the clutch it'll stall the motor out. Other times it goes into gear just fine. The throwout assembly works perfectly. He said he pulled the starter and looked at it, and one or more of the springs on the clutch disc was not where it should be. I'd believe that but I still don't know why it locks up sometimes.

7k RPM clutch dumps just result in a lot of smoke and no forward movement. :laugh:

I briefly entertained the idea of trying to fix it and drive it, but I'm not gonna use that clutch setup in the new rig, and the whole point is to get money back on this car, not put money into it. Plus even with a new clutch I've got no idea if the trans is any good or not.

Better off just letting it limp around the shop until it's time to take it apart.

I like the newer bums and that's about it. If they had a SHO wagon I'd totally get one. One of my scooby friends had a Taurus wagon. Named it Clifford the big red wagon and would load pallets in the back. We fit more in the Taurus than in my Jeep.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I ran yellow jacket with absolutely no issues, didn't seem that hard of a trail.

I'll definitely agree with that, I fit my entire apartment into my taurus wagon when I was moving out of my place sophmore year.

Not to mention it transported its fair share of Jeep parts. I pulled up to the guys house when I bought the HP44, it was damn heavy because it was complete, brakes/calipers, steering and all. I opened the hatch, and he lifted the axle with his tractor and drove it into the back of the wagon.
