THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

[internet debate]

If you had a HP that wouldn't have happened!!!

[/internet debate]

Sounds like an awesome time Sam.

How did you get that bound up?

actually. i thought about it. and the loud noises occured while in reverse.

so technically the gearset was running on the strong side when that happened

so the internet can go fist itself

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I see Chris viewing this thread...have a fun weekend? :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Definitely gonna break stuff haha. Im gonna buy front shafts soon hopefully, and then my weak link ought to be driveshafts? Im guessing the 1310 joints might hate life. Who knows, time will tell! Either way im friggin pumped to have them, they're in great shape. Now i need to find a set of 17s again

1310's aren't gonna be your weak link, sorry.

Found that out the hard way after replacing a bunch of expensive 60 pieces.

Yup sounds like a weekend for the storybooks.

I think Saturday at 2:30 PM was the dirtiest I've been in my entire life.

Adam and I got back to the trailer and didn't even know how to start making the situation better. Just stood there shivering for a good 5 minutes, drinking a Yuengling, wondering wtf just happened.

I drove a good lap and a half with no goggles at all, approaching the upper limits of 5th gear at times. Fun stuff. :D

Made it about 30 miles out of 50. Bigger recap later, first I gotta recover from the shitstorm that happened while I skipped work on friday.

hey fine by me, I'm planning on buying a bunch of expensive 60 pieces anyway

Looking forward to the in-depth recap

Looking forward to the in-depth recap

I'm not typing it again, so y'all get the copy-paste edition.
My race went about as expected. We started prerrunning with no issues, until a few miles in I noticed the truck overheating. I had just installed a new electric fan kit the ngiht before the race...turns out one of the fans was pretty much DOA. We completed the prerun lap without any further issues and started to tear into it at the pits.

After messing with the fans for about an hour, we finally figured out that the 'bad' one would still spin, but 'backwards' even with the correct polarity, and at about 1/3rd rated speed. Crap. I hacked up my beautiful new fan shroud to squeeze a stock XJ electric fan back in there, fixed up a few other loose ends (Thanks Mitch for the welding!), and called it a night.

Race day we had a good start against Stu Wilkinson and were keeping perfect pace with him until the first high-speed part, when my upper radiator hose blew apart. Turns out that after taking the fan shroud in and out a bunch of times, we forgot to put the hose clamp back on. Double crap. With a mixture of Gatorade and coal water from some puddles, we topped it off enough to keep the motor happy and completed the rest of that lap without issue.

Next lap was when the weather really started to go to shit. After quickly running through our stash of rags to keep the goggles clean, I decided that the best solution was often no goggles at all. The truck was running great, temps were a little hot but still OK, and we were having a great time. Until the muddy hillclimb anyway, where my 5k lbs pig wanted none of it. My dependable but s l o w winch got us to the top (Otter - no worries on the cable, I was still pulling in slack at the time anyway) and the rest of the lap went by as a muddy blur.

We pitted only to replenish our stash of rags (Thanks again Mitch for the drive-thru service!!), and headed out back on the course for the third lap. The truck felt as good as it ever did and even without goggles, we were hauling as much ass as we could. Made it through all the rock sections, hit the high speed again, until shortly before the 180* turn something in the transfer case took a shit and the truck stopped moving.

Probably the doubler housing again. Although I'm reserving judgement until I tear it apart and see what really happened. I'm prepared to eat shit if I've been wrong this whole time. :D

Aside from that, no major issues, and I can't wait til the next one!

Many thanks to my co-driver Adam for hanging in there, keeping the rig rolling, and being winch bitch, Mitch for being totally ready to crawl under a nasty muddy rig to weld some stuff back up, to Travis Watford for the ride back to the pits (that walk seems a lot longer when your clothes weigh 50 lbs more than normal), Brett Keller for the cutoff wheel and generator time, Lou's buddy Chris for the crimpers & butt connectors, Tim & Andy for the shop rags and other random stuff, and of course to the volunteers and staff for staying out there in what was probably the worst racing weather to date.

Also I received a righteous nerf from Lucas Murphy - sorry about that one, buddy. I coulda sworn I saw you head for the alternate route around that corner so I stopped to let you take it...instead of watching the mirror I was watching for you to finish the turn; I deserved that little kick in the ass. My apologies for holding you up.

The weather really did kick ass up here. Yesterday I GSD'd a little in the morning and planned on doing it all day, but then my friend texted me and asked if I wanted to ride. Hard to turn that down.

Not an abrasive blade. Something with teeth. Your horizontal band saw would be perfect.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I am 100% jealous of your weekend.

It was beautiful weather up here though, aside from the thunderstorm late Sat night.

This was definitely the third-worst weather day I've ever experienced at the park...and that's likely only because I spent from 3:00 PM onwards in an enclosed trailer.

Low 40's temps; driving, horizontal, sleet/rain with flood warnings; 35-45 MPH wind gusts and tornado watch; no windshield, goggles cast aside (ADAM! FIX THESE XXXXING THINGS!), driving well over 50 MPH and shootin' for the redline in 5th gear on a narrow-as-shit double track with a 300-foot drop to I-81 on the left and random boulders on the right, and a gigantic perma-grin on my face.

It was around that time that Adam gave up trying to fix his goggles and decided it was better not to see what was coming.

So...what you're saying is you didn't GSD at all.

You don't GSD a little, that's not how it works.

I'm planning on going home from work today, stripping the whole interior of the XJ down, yanking the t-case out again, and making a list of everything I need to do in the next few weeks. This is with the XJ on the trailer in my backyard, not even at the shop. Roughly 2-2.5 hours to accomplish this before I run outta daylight.

That's GSD.

As you just pointed out GSD is a pace.

I took apart both sides of my door, troubleshot, fixed, layed down some more sound damping stuff, and reassembled in under an hour.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Fawk you guys then :D

No one could conceivably make more progress than either Chris or Colin. They are kings.

I GSD err day.

Nah dude it's cause/effect, don't whine.

You get a lot of things done (that should normally take a long time) in a relatively short time frame.

I will fully admit that Adam probably GSDs more than me when he actually has time to do stuff.

Now, if you had spent the whole day working and actually DID get stuff done, then yes you could claim GSD.

:D
