Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

T Pain just grabbed some and I think I'm going to also and strip my my rails and prime/prep for stiffeners. I'd like to have full stiffs, rockers and new bumper for memorial day.
good plan, if ya need help on the stiffners let me know now that ive done a set i kinda know what im doin:explosion

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Im a bit late to the party, but im all but certain there were 5.2 dakotas made with nv3500s, or 3550s, whatever...

Fwiw :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I believe there were. Not looking for a 5.2 though, and I'd rather buy it all in one carcass to simplify things if I can find one economically enough.

Carmelo, like I said, no rush. Anywhere from like a month from now till 6 or more months from now will likely have no effect on the schedule, just trying to figure this out and line it all up well in advance so I can keep the budget minimal.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

kieth and travis grab a couple flap disc too, the rapid strip disn dosnt like rust to well, with that being said im not to impressed with the heleta flap disc, cut off disc are ok though

if ya get a 5.2 cheap enough then take it, its bolt in swap to a 5.9 and plug n play ecu when ya swap to 5.9 to

This is EXACTLY the kind of info I wish I knew before I started looking for donors. Thanks.

I'm really hoping that the guy selling the 3500 will still have it in a month or two, and will want to just get rid of the stupid thing by then, at which point I can bargain a bit... but we shall see, maybe Carmelo will happen upon an awesome rolled tweaked smashed piece of junk that has everything I need in it before then.

Already had a few flap wheels

Btw, when you say using the rapidstrip disc in corners wears it out fast, do you mean its better to approach the metal as if it were a cutoff wheel, like use the "edge" of the disc so to speak, or more like a flap disc and use the side of it?

For what you want, id say that 3500 sounds like a real decent buy. What kind of plow setup and what shape is it in? Hows the dump bed? Considering what nv4500s go for, and what you could get for the rest of the parts/scrap, id say you'd be hard pressed not to come out in good shape...

like where the sping hangers/floor/frame mett up they like to catch, be carful around drain holes too

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Those rapid strip things kick ass, I used them to strip my HP44 when I was building it, as well as clear some rust off some sheet metal.

I had seen them before and was like "what is this mess of crap, what would this be for?" I can't remember why I bought it, but it worked better at stripping the surface rust and crap off the axle tubes than a wire wheel, so I was wicked happy.

Hi Carmelo, how are you today?

yeah, that's my thoughts exactly. No idea what plow setup, it's a typical terse slightly illiterate CL post... I was lucky to find one that actually mentioned what engine and how many speeds the transmission had

I figure if I get it for 1500, sell the axles for like 100 apiece or use them on a jeep (which saves me that much on THAT build plan), sell the dump body for at least 300, sell the plow for at least 300, get 200 for scrap, leaves me with the motor/trans/transfer case for 500. If I make more, or pay less, or both, I could end up in a real good spot. Just hope he still has it in a month or so when I'll have the upfront cash to do the deal (I have it now, but it has to go towards the house.)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i hate wire wheels of any type. picking pieces of wire from your clothes gets old real quick

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I will completely second that Rob. That sucks. What is worse is the small fine ones on dremels, man they suck.

Any pictures in the ad? Im assuming you asked for some if he didnt post any... it really all hinges on what its got for a plow/bed. If the bed is in good shape and works good and blah blah, depending on what it is exactly, scott might mayyyybe be interested, i dunno. I doubt itd fit his truck though, too long i think. Still, selling a dump bed for $300 should be real easy. Same goes for the plow

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Steering ordered. Only a handful of parts to get now, and I start work thursday, so I should be good to go without a problem for NACFest

One, kinda grainy and low res. I'm not bugging the guy at all till I have cash in hand. I will be fixing it up and driving it home then parting it if this happens, so I could drive it to his place and pull the bed on the spot if it worked for him. I'm starting to think some real interesting thoughts about what to do with the rest of the truck but won't be spilling those till I find out if this is the donor or not because I don't like blowing smoke out my ass about something I probably won't end up doing.

</talk and no walk>

We'll see in a month.
