THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I will have my hand touch nothing but least refined shifter knob available. My preference the original beat up knob, preferable half broken and extremely uncomfortable and ugly.
Jam a golf ball on the shaft and wrap it in old socks and duct tape
Says the guy who bought a house for $35k

38... but who's counting :roflmao:

I could have gotten one for as low as 15. But would have had to put way more money into it and it wasn't as nice.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Muffin shifter knob made on my lathe.

Let's do it.

I legit have made a shifter knob on a lathe before. It was out of plastic and it was freehand, but it came out to be a pretty damn decent sphere.

I like lathes, I could probably show you how to turn sometime if you want. Not everything will be correct, but I know how to put a piece of stock in at one diameter, and take it out at a smaller diameter.

Let me know next time you want to come up and we can play with it.

I need to come back to your place when I rent the macro lens again and take a picture of your dad's challenger logo on his grill. (or maybe the charger, or maybe of everything up top........just sploooged in my pants....)

Read my edit.

Make sure you get a cut off tool, you'll need a cutting tool, not sure how much you'll need a boring bar, and I've never really used one of those but its same deal as cutting tool. Get a knurler, badass.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Is there going to be a lathe and macro show down at Colin's?

Here's the real way to cut a sphere http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88034&highlight=sphere

In Colin's case, I'd freehand it too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sweet. So cut off tool, cutting tool, and knurler?

Ideally, the one thing I can think of right now that I'd like to use it for is to build my gearbanger.

Basically I want to drill/tap some aluminum rod. Female threads on one end, male on the other for a blingin shifter. Then make a shifter knob if it's not too much of a PITA.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm going to make a note to stop by WT tool and get a set of cutters for it.

I've been avoiding going there the last few weeks. I know ill end up buying a ton of stuff when I go there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone using Firefox 4, the official release yet? Seems better than the 3.x I was using.
Wow, rockauto just impressed the shit out of me.

I guess they figured out that I have a 1982 DODGE W350 PICKUP (I use this for ordering front axle parts for the XJ), 2005 DODGE RAM 2500 PICKUP, and 1994 JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT. They just sent me a link to items specific to those vehicles that are on wholesaler closeout.

This includes things like a set of brake pads for $7, hub seals for $2, rear rotors for my Dodge for $25, etc.

Too bad I don't need anything right now.
They send those out to me once a month as well. I took get the '82 W350 list.

Shifter knob is a good 1st time project, should be very easy.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You could also bang out a snazzy looking wooden shifter knob too. Finish with some nice varnish and then you'd be shifting in style. lol

I have a bit of experience on wood lathes and with duplicators too. Duplicators are the shit.

Maybe I'll try that.

Remember I was bitching about my laptop & considering windows 7 the other day? It's in a state of damn near constant implosion now. IE, Chrome, and Firefox are all quickly ceasing to operate.

I dunno what it caught or where it came from, but AVG got rid of some of it and must have pissed the rest off, because it only got worse after that.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Time to go visit the wonderful land of DMV to register the new trailer.

Trailer trips to the DMV are always the easiest but most expensive for me. Its easy because I dont have to deal with ODO readings or anything, but it always cost more for the renewal/taxes then say my Nova or red jeep. And I usually have to have the renewal for the trailer stamped by my insurance, whereas the Nova doesnt need that.
