THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Speaking of nuts and bolts I gotta go deal with those now. Then Ineed to find someone to help me bleed my brakes because I'm lame and don't want to do them by myself.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Narrowing the TTB seems like it'd be a pretty big project. I've only ever seen the cut & turn. :dunno: Any more info on that?

I don't wanna leave it full width because I'm trying to keep this thing narrow - stock width for the explorer 8.8, in other words.

I think the TTB 35 with quality (cryo'd) gears and the bearing cap girdle arrangement will probably be OK.
Its just a bit more involved than a cut & turn.

If your planning on RCV's and a cut & turn anyways, it seems worth it to be able to run D44 or D50 gears, and probably cost less in the long run

A few other articles you might be able to use

Found someone who used that adapter plate...no wonder this is such a bitch of a swap, the overlay of the bolt patterns is pretty gnarly.

That's worth $220 shipped for me to not have to think about it anymore.
Nice
Not sure I really want to know what a set of RCV's for that TTB is gonna cost.

This thing better XXXXing work awesome, as much as I'm obsessing over it.
Let me know what you find out on the RCV's, the ranger is going to need them at some point.

Discovered this morning that the water main coming into my house is almost certainly split down the side underground from freezing... that's going to be expensive to fix.
How deep? rent a backhoe on a saturday and I will be up. If its plastic, it shouldn't be that bad to fix, but if its copper, better lube up

only a couple of feet where it's broken I'm sure. The problem is that I need a licensed plumber to do it... and:
* the shutoff valve under my driveway is either FUBAR or packed with junk so we couldn't get a wrench on it
* the water line from the street up the driveway is shared with my neighbors
* my neighbors are bitchy and hate me and think they own the driveway and can yell at me about everything, they yelled at the plumber when he parked his truck in the driveway for a few minutes to look at the valve while I wasn't even there
* the line that's probably broken is under my front porch (fortunately, about 5 feet off the ground) around the front of the house where I can't easily get a backhoe to
* we have to shut the water off to both houses to fix anything, at least till the valve under the driveway gets cleared up or fixed, which will also cost thousands.

So basically: I'm xxxxed.

If the shutoff valve under the driveway was fine, everything else would be OK, I would have grabbed my spade and fixed it this morning. Hell, if the shutoff valve under the driveway was OK, it would be turned off, the water main to my house would be bone dry, and the problem would not exist.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Guess what Ross. You're not wheeling your black jeep at NACfest.

I'll be wheeling at NACfest no matter what, will you even be there? :moon:

:thumbdn:

I had to dig up the broken shitpipe from my house to the tank once. Ended up knee deep in poopy.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Why the hell do they think they own your driveway?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Why the hell do they think they own your driveway?
because they actually do. I have right of way to drive on it (I looked in the registry of deeds), but I can't park on it for extended periods of time because it is actually on their property. The woman of the house is the extremely bitchy commanding "wants to be in control and feels she is a reasonable person for feeling this way" sort and is impossible to work with, she flat out ignores me if I say hi, is always yelling at her kids, dog etc for trivial stuff, gets on my case if anything isn't exactly how she wants it, etc.

Basically if her house burned down and set mine on fire, I'd be pretty happy, because my insurance would cover more than the current structure is actually worth to me and she'd be somewhere else for at least a few months.

That's crappy that you can't park on your own damn driveway. Where the fawk are you supposed to park when you get home from work? (when you're living there)

edit: Is there enough frontage to pave your own (on your own property) and tell her to screw?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

dig up the shutoff valve and clean it out, then fix it yourself. the driveway will have to be removed over the valve anyways, so it doesn't really matter who removes it. For that matter, the utility company owns the valve. call them up and request a shutoff. its their valve, and therefore their problem. the shutoff might cost you some, but I can guarantee it will be cheaper than paying a plumber to fix the valve, and the neighbors cant bitch at the water company.
Its really lame if mass requires you to use a licensed plumber for the repairs. in CT, the homeowner can do just about everything on their own house.

Welcome to Dumbassachussetts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No thanks, I put up with living there for just over a year, and I never intend to go back for much longer than a weekend.

no frontage... except on the back side of the lot, on Randall st. That's why I got a snowplow, I intend to simply use that road for access and ignore my neighbors entirely. Sadly we got 4 friggin feet of snow right about when I was trying to get everything done, the snowplow has only recently become visible again.

She battled the previous owner of the house constantly about driveway usage and plowing and whatnot apparently. He ended up cutting a parking space into the woods on the vacant city lot next door to me (which is right next to the driveway), if my plans to buy that lot go through I can pretty much end this whole ridiculous debate by turning her second parking space into my access to the lot / garage and tell her to deal with it.

Cut your loses and move to NH :dunno:
I would love to, but not right now.

Sadly, since we share the stupid driveway / side spur of the road, the pipe from the street to both of our shutoff valves is *our* problem. If the pipe to the shutoff valves has issues, we split the costs, if the shutoff valves have problems, it's all on whoever owns that particular valve. I can do anything and everything on my own house except plumbing, gasfitting, and asbestos removal... I intend to do my own plumbing as well, the only reason I haven't done this myself already is because of the stupid shutoff valve being busted. Once that is fixed or cleaned out, they can go to hell, I will do everything myself and just not tell them, I don't do mickey mouse repairs so if they can distinguish my work from that of a plumber they are doing good.

Hell, if I knew if the shutoff valve was fully open or just leaking, I'd handle this myself. If it's just leaking, who cares, I'll fix a pipe while water trickles on my hands :dunno: otherwise I have to do things properly.

Its better to ask forgiveness than permission.
I'm sure a water leak qualifies as an emergency repair, so you should be able to do it yourself. if the bitch has any issues with you cutting the pavement on the driveway, dig underneath it, and let her collapse it by driving over it.
But it sounds like you should just finish the roof and try to turn a profit on the house.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My worry is that I'd have to dig down a couple feet before I'd get to the valve. She actually spent a lot of time bitching at the city about the fact that the valves stick up a bit from the pavement, and was really unhappy when they wouldn't fix it for her (for the above reasons, it's our driveway not the city's) so as long as I magically did it without inconveniencing her in the least, and made it level with the pavement again, she'd probably think I was an OK person for a few minutes.

The water line is the only reason I have to deal with her at all. By next winter I'll have the plow on and simply won't use the driveway, and I am going to buy that other lot at some point, come hell or high water. The other lot has frontage on Randall st AND an opening onto the driveway, so I am pretty much set then.
