i am pondering the D300 for sale in the classifieds... what say ye olde NAC? too much trouble? how much is the adapter for the aw4? and how hard is it to get a mount since i'll be trying to keeping drivetrain location stock.

id be all over it.

if it was in one piece.
or if i knew a dana300 inside and out.

but it isn't and I don't and i'd hate to XXXX something up while putting it together, or realize im missing something and have it fail on me while on some desert highway in arizona where people get kidnapped and raped regularly

Seems similar to a D20.

Not very hard, just involves a few shims.

I just set my D20 back up by feel (since I lost the thickness of the gaskets). Seems fine.

Considering that the 32 spline HD output is about $400+ and he has fresh bearings, I say it's a pretty decent deal.

You need the adapter because the input of the D300 sticks out of the front of the D300 farther than the input of a 231. From everything I read, a 7/8" thick steel ring works just fine. That also serves as a clocking ring. You bolt the ring to the D300 with countersunk bolts, thread in the studs to the clocked set of holes (just like a 231), then slam it on the back of the trans and put your 6 nuts on. IIRC, these plates go for about $50.

Why would you need a new mount...? The mount is part of the transmission.

yea doesnt seem to bad... i gotta address funds and see. i need an sye at the minimum for my 231... for another 300 i have a d300 twin stick and 4:1 low range.

What's the best automatic out there? (for a wheeling rig) Not talking about one of those fancy 8 spd tiptronic Mercedes autos or the DSG in the new VW's.

no idea really, but I like the fact that I've beat the absolute shit out of a few of mine and they haven't croaked yet. The way everyone has 3 sitting in their yard and 1 under the porch tends to make it cheap to replace if you do blow one up, too.

Yeah I'm just starting to get used to going to bed at 11-12 and getting up at 7, so going to bed at 10 throws me off and I can't sleep past 5:30 apparently.

I wish I had a garage so I could work late into the night. I have to quit making loud noises by 10 so I don't piss off the neighbors.

I hate that, can't wait till I have the cash to build a garage. I figure a 1 or 2 bay one with a ~14 foot door and a regular door should be pretty easy to build aside from having the foundation poured.

I can usually fall asleep as soon as I hit the sack, the amount of random stuff I have to get done and projects to finish means I don't sleep more than 5-6 hours a night, so falling asleep is easy. It's waking up that sucks.

Yeah the D300 doesn't come with 4:1 Adam, it's 2.62:1 AFAIK.

But you'll have twin stick and a stronger case in general.

Can always add in the 4:1 later on.

I do like the fact that they are 50-100 bucks apiece on the classifieds and EVERYONE has an extra, though.

No, it doesn't. It has the HD 32 spline output so your VSS is plug and play and you have a BAMF output. He specifically says stock gears, which as Colin pointed out are 2.62.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a good deal.

complete dana 300...
teralow hd 32 rear output
dd machine flip shifter twin sticks
rebuild kit with all new bearings, seals and gaskets
stock gears.
also comes with the stock rear output and the stock shifter
case is torn down, just needs put together. i was going to use this for a doubler, but decided not to
$500 for everything, plus shipping
