THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I got hit about 3 years ago, other guy was at fault, but he had no insurance, so mine paid for the damage to my jeep. Because the insurance company paid out money, my rates rose.

The good thing is that there was nothing on my record, so I was able to change insurance companies and pay less

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ouch, that blows. At least you were able to get it home. They'd probably total it, anyway.
That's my bet. There's no way I want to try and go through a salvage inspection with this beast and it's supposedly my DD, so I really want to avoid that. I really could just toss a radiator in it, fix the lights, and drive it - it would look like hell but work.

That sucks Ken at least your alright... And to be honest if this is your only recent accident I wouldnt worry about it too much... theres a handful on my record and my insurance never went up
Yeah... this is my *only* accident, aside from the time I blew a brake line and slid into a guardrail. I fixed that one myself and never reported it, so I have a clean record.

Everyone was fine, including the two people in front of me. We didn't even wait for the police to show up, just exchanged info and everyone's vehicle was quite driveable. It looked like the front guy probably won't need more than a bumper cover (if that), the middle guy will need new front and rear bumpers, maybe tail lights, maybe hatch lid... I need a bunch of stupid stuff and it's almost making me think about doing a 97+ swap. I'm certainly building myself a custom bumper with d-ring tabs that double as snowplow attachment points, that's for sure. I expect zero dollars out of insurance since I'm planning on telling them that I'll cover the repairs myself, since it really is pretty minor on my part. A header panel, a radiator (which I needed badly anyways), probably a bit of frame straightening, maybe two fenders, new bumper.

dude ken that blows... thats my biggest fear with my jeep.. some stupid unavoidable accident
Yeah. It all happened so damn fast, I was driving along just fine and then suddenly OH F*** SHIT THAT CAR IS REALLY CLOSE TO ME <bam>. Glad I was doing well under the limit when everything started or it would have sucked a lot more.

Ken told me about it earlier today when he picked up parts from me, but what he did was exactly the same thing I did with my brairwood. My 1st accident (I did technically have one before, but it was a hit and run on me, and the other person's insurance paid it all out, and that was 4+ years ago), and my insurance went up a nice amount.
Yeah... :(

The only way I was luckier than you is that I hit nice and square, so I didn't really tweak anything, just pushed stuff in. I'm fairly certain that an hour or two with a BFH and a pair of channel locks will fix any frame issues, and I will either park it till spring and then do it all while the drivetrain is pulled for the tranny swap, or ghetto hack it together enough to look nice and then fix it right when I swap the tranny. Motor's coming out for a million other reasons anyways.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hahahahaha that was harsh :spin1:

I actually have everything except the header panel itself, one of the headlight bezels, and some mounting parts. Like I said, the damage I don't really give a damn about, it's my insurance premiums that I am pissed about.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think I've mentioned this here before, but one of the things my company does is the overhead monorail conveyors for many of the large auto plants. These are the motors that run the carriages that move body panels, engines...pretty much anything on the assembly lines.

One of the parts I play in this is they give us the weight, required top speed, maximum allowable acceleration, how often it's gonna start/stop etc, and I size the motor accordingly. I've been working on a new project for GM for the last two weeks and the numbers seemed kind of odd...way smaller than most of the stuff we've supplied previously. So I was talking to the project manager yesterday just making sure I wasn't completely off, and he said nope, that all looks pretty good.

Turns out these are going to upgrade an assembly line at the GM plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. At that plant they build the smaller Daewoo variants, the Chevy Aveo models for US and Canada, and the Suzuki Swift+ for Canada. No wonder the numbers seemed kinda small...the heaviest component on those cars can probably be picked up by hand and carried across the factory.

Just got the official order for the project this morning. Nice way to start the day. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

boring. i was reading and thought you were gonna tell me they just ordered parts to move in the factory for the new ZL1 or Z28 camaro.

Been there, done that. Oshawa Assembly, Ontario, Canada, 2008. :D

They didn't have to change anything on the carriages when they incorporated the convertible into production, either.

I'd imagine the engine for the ZL1 will probably be done at the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI where they do the LS7's. If so, none of our stuff will be needed there...those are all hand-built. :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No but they are making a new truck to compete with the power wagon and raptor. Search gm all terrain.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Also saw this on my way to work today. Ken said it's some new FMTV they're phasing in or something? Some guy in a white hard hat was driving it :dunno:

Thing was cruising though. I had to do 75-80 to catch up to it at one point.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Also as a weird little side note...GM requires a certain type of 4-pin connector on the motors for power hookup.

My supplier for the connectors has them stocked at a warehouse in Mexico. I need to order a whole bunch of them, take two out of the box when they get here to build prototypes, send the rest all the way over to Germany where they'll do the main assembly run...then I'll get the finished motors on our dock here, send them to the integrator in Michigan, and the whole mess ends up back down in Mexico.

:dunce:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So I had ordered a couple small things from Amazon and they were shipped via USPS. The tracking #'s say that they were delivered today but I can't find them anywhere. The woman who rents the in-law appt in the house is the mail lady for our area and is usually really good. I left her a note basically asking where the heck they might be... I want my ratcheting wrenches!
Follow up: She left me a voicemail this morning. My boxes arrived at the PO and will be delivered today. So how the hell have they been marked delivered online already?

Yeah, you can recognize the FMTV (Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles) series of vehicles by the forward control/cab-over style cab - instead of having a massive hood, they have the driver sitting way up over everything. They are also more curved and less boxy and look more like a pinz or a unimog. They're of recent design (as in the project was started only a few decades ago, instead of being based off world war II and Korean War era vehicles like the deuces and 5tons) and are built to handle modern highway speeds. Check out http://www.steelsoldiers.com/fmtv/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_of_Medium_Tactical_Vehicles

USPS and FedEx are real good at this, I've had things delivered up to a week after the "delivered" status showed up. Since I live in the ghetto this was slightly worrying.

This is the first time anything like this has happened to me, I was honestly kind of surprised. My uncle got laid off from Intel several years ago and was basically forced to take a job working for UPS as a truck loader. He could have been a driver but is old enough to know that despite the fact they are paid well, they put up with a ton of BS. Next time I see him I'll pick his brain about how he thinks that could have happened.

Something about this house, too... It's not well marked and stuff is frequently delivered to my neighbors. I suppose that means I should order less shit.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just got my quote on the H1's. Maybe it's because I live so damn far away (he's in Cali), but it was waaaay more than I expected, $1k-$1400ish, depending on what I went with.

How are do people get 8 bolts locally?
