THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The more you work on it the more "in the near future" it becomes. I can't believe my front axle is almost done.

Whatcha gonna do tonight?
Yeah, yours is really coming along. Definitely shows how much you've been working on it.

Hope to finish the dumb rust repairs for the most part then get back to what I was doing with plating the rails. Going to go from the motor mount brackets down to the bottom rails. I'll be lucky if I get all that done tonight but I think I've got a good shot at it.

Is any amount of play in a pinion acceptable?
I'd do the ball joints. (I know you have a place to get them stupid cheap)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ross has... not sure if it's the right way or not, but it can be done.

I just did a rockauto order last night, if I'd remembered I needed a pinion bearing I'd have it by this weekend

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm not sure, but i think i can replace the outter pinion bearing without removing the pinion.

Not if you plan on replacing the race too, gotta take out the pinion.

It gets tapped out from the back side.

If you were really lazy, you might be able to get it out with some heat and a pilot bearing puller, but I'd rather just pull the carrier and tap the pinion through.

Thanks. Yeah, I've been working on it every chance I get just because I know the NACfest deadline is approaching pretty quickly and I'd like to get one/two trail runs in before then to make sure everything is kosher.

I also have to fix the trailer and go over my truck beforehand as well.

Sounds like a plan to me. Those plates took me a while to get all fitted up, but it wasn't too bad.

You'd be able to replace the outer pinion bearing, but not the outer pinion bearing race.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Jenn is hanging out with one of her friends tonight too, so I'll have the whole night to actually get some stuff done.

:bs:

Listening to Metallica's Kill 'Em All album right now. So good. Too bad James Hetfield got old.

Not sure if he has any extra but I plan on keeping all of mine, sorry.

Metal whores always have some.

Too bad James Hetfield started to believe he knew how to sing.

:roflmao:

Its wicked easy, I did it to black jeeps old 30 in like 20 minutes. Pop off pinion nut/yoke/seal/bearing. Install new bearing (with old race)/new seal. new pinion nut and be on your way. Mine went for ~3/16" of play to brand new in an instant. I was lucky, it was mostly only the outer pinion bearing that needed replacement because of an outta balance d-shaft/possibly loose pinion nut.

New races are overrated. Races dont wear out, bearings do ;)

Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) is one of my favorite jams evar. Cliff Burton was the man. Till he got squashed by a bus...

So, just had my interview. I think it went well (knock on wood). and she said taking a few days off in June wouldn't be a problem. I hope I find out either way soon, I don't like the waiting game...

It's going to be a mad dash to the finish. Gonna take the week before NACfest off?

The front ones weren't quick for me either. I've already got pieces cut that fit closely, I just need to get them to fit a little better. I've got probably a half hour of prep to do to the chassis, 15-20 mins of prep to do to the plates, then I should be able to get going on getting them onto the Jeep.

We'll see what happens in all honesty. Starting in May I'll be done with the majority of my master's classes and I get to start on a 9/80 work schedule meaning I get every other Friday off so that should help get some more work done.

I might take a day or two in a row if I need to to pound out some stuff like wiring/interior/plumbing/assembly stuff.

I'd like to save that for the weeks before NACfest though in case I take it on a trailrun and something catastrophic happens.

I think my dad is going back to 9/80 too. I like the idea of that schedule.

So no cage for NAC fest you think?
I'll leave the race, I'm sure its fine
You might be doing it again in a few weeks if it's totally hosed. Or is this axle for sale?

Agreed, definitely an awesome song.

Glad it seems to have gone well  They wouldn't have bothered discussing your short vacation if they weren't considered offering you the job.

That's a good point. She said she had to talk with her boss, sometimes he likes to meet with the people but sometimes he just tells her hey whatever you think is fine. But I know he's in a CI (continuous improvement) training thing this week, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was like yeah whatever, don't care.

Now I just gotta pretend I know how to be patient

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just don't think there's going to be time for it.

I don't really care, I just won't do anything where there's a high probability of rolling.

depending on where you're at with stuff, my/scott's bender is basically done now, and we're gonna want to use it a lot! so if you wanted to come up some time while everything's out and going i'm sure it wouldn't be any problem to whip up a nice b-pillar hoop and some other little doo-dads. FOR SAFETY'S SAKE!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I kinda wanna do it all at once so that everything is tied together.

We'll see. I'm probably going to build a bender after NACfest anyway.
