Leftover chili for dinner. Om nom nom.

Bought stuff for tomorrow's Chipotle Bison Chili. Went with 2 lbs of bison...I'll use as much as I can fit in my little cooker and freeze the rest.

I've never cooked with chipotles before...are you supposed to rehydrate them before putting them in? Or just chop them up try and let the slow cooker soften them?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I can't shake the feeling that I am forgetting a part I need on this order. Time to go through the entire jeep parts catalog considering whether I was going to replace each part or not.

Mark - you offered a radiator to me a while ago, still got it / still don't mind parting with it? I don't remember if you're still going to school or not either, if I have to drive to the Cape so be it.

Only if you buy me Jagerbombs.

 What size is your cooker? Mine is a 5 qt and was only about half full when I had my whole batch in.

I've never used chipotles before either. I would imagine that whatever flavor is in it will come out of it when it gets mixed in and slow cooked, just like jalapeno peppers or dry spices.

THe NAC Lots-O-Recipes Thread.

I've already said that before somewhere in this thread.

Ken - Yes, I'm in Boston, and the radiator is on the cape. If you had reminded me a week earlier, I could have brought it to the M&G.

i dont like any of this hexagon suspension kids ideas
that is almost signature worthy.
I think I like Adam's quote about cardboard improving the value of the springs more though.

 I forgot till a few days ago and kept forgetting every time I was on here. Then I was all like "shit I should probably swap the motor soon" when I heard what I thought was gross piston slap (it was the idler pulley) and remembered I didn't have a new radiator to put in it, and the old one is getting real sketchy. Oh well, whenever you are down there next I guess.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So, weekend projects?
What's the plans?
snow, if I can find a warm garage, probably welding stiffeners on a friends jeep sunday.

Spent the day up at the scout camp plowing snow. Most of the day I used their dump truck. 70s ford F800, manual steering, a heavy plow on the front, and lots of tight roads= a good upper body workout.
Then I jumped into their F250, and quickly found out the hard way that it doesn't have limited slips, and weighs quite a bit less than my dads F350 that I'm used to plowing with. I pushed in about 200 yards, then had a drift collapse and block me in with no way to back out

3 quart. By the numbers, the recipe that I posted brings it to about 80-90% capacity. So that makes sense.

Chipotles are just dried, smoked jalapenos that are left on the plant longer and get almost over-ripe. The skin is thicker and it's a sweeter/smokier kind of heat, but still just as hot as fresh jalapenos. I'm sure the flavor will come out either way...I just don't want it to turn out like you're biting into little pieces of leather or something.

The package says you can rehydrate them by putting them in very hot water for a few minutes...I believe that, but I don't want it to dilute the flavor either. More research I suppose.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just went through the whole damn parts catalog... let's just say the dirty POS is barely going to be recognizable when I finish this list of modifications.

Bets on when I finally finish this list, nevermind the stuff not on the list yet? 2011? 2012? dates after 2012 are not valid, as the world will be ending then.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Perhaps you could rehydrate them and put the rehydrated mixture into the chili, but when the chili is nearly cooked, take the cover off and boil it down a bit...?
